I understand, but the price you pay for the love of a dog is repaid 2 fold. Go for it. It's worth it. Chief

Wow, $350. A pup at the shelter cost that much here, so you are getting a real deal if it is what you want. Go look at it and see the parents. Seeing the parents is very telling in a lab. The parents of my labs were very calm when I visited so that is one of the things that sold me. We had to travel up north to find our labs. None available in our area. Those that I see for sale are going for $600 to $1000. and more. Even that is not too bad when you consider some of the vet bills you get.

You can deal with it if you set yourself up right in the beginning. First thing is to get a crate, then use it. They house train much quicker, plus you don't get upset by their misadventures when not directly supervised. They get accustomed to the crate and will go in on their own. Labs, lots of chew toys. NONE from China. in fact, don't buy them anything from China that they can put in their mouths. My dogs didn't chew up my house clothing because I gave them better options.

We (pronounced her!) have decided it would be in the best interest of both us and the pup to have someone home full time before we pick one up.

Now before we go giving her a beating, understand that I agree completely. Having raised dogs from pups throughout both of our lives since childhood, we know exactly what is involved. I personally don't think it would be fair to the pup to be crated up for over 40 hrs a week.....probably what leads to misbehavior trends in a lot of dogs.

I was aware that the pups were available and for sale as I used to work with the guy at one time. His wife brought the pup in to where 99lbs works a couple different times (most recently, yesterday afternoon) and she is a pushover for puppies. This is what lead her to make the statements she did once she got home.

There will be a dog in our future-maybe even this fall.

Its good you thought it all the way through yooper, too many people act only on emotion when getting a dog.

A dog is a lifetime commitment for them, so having a home ready for that is the most important step. :)

I really agree with the someone home a lot of time when you have a puppy. It is hard for them to bond with you if you aren't there. I think the lab would have been a better choice than the Burmese Mt. dog. They get really, really big.
