Long time listener, first time caller. Recently moved out of the big city, and after the quick pain in the wallet to fill the old fuel oil tank, I installed a stove. I got much more satisfaction spending $750 (buying/installing/cord wood) than I did spending $200 on a 55 gal drum of diesel and pumping it into the tank. Ive had stoves in my garage in the past, and have even built a couple of waste oil stoves (running one in the garage now) I'm now hooked, haven't ran the furnace since last Tuesday! I bought a cord to get started, $140 delivered, and I have a little under an acre of woods on the property, time to start on the 3 yr plan. I was just informed that a co-worker has 16 downed trees that she wants gone. Hope to scope it out soon, I'll post pics. I've read 38 pages of this forum, so I thought it's time to join. I've already hacked tons of info from you guys, hopefully I may be able to reciprocate.
Thats not mine (well, in my head maybe) but I wanna build one of those in the woods. Latest report, 2 ash trees down and bucked, 20 dead standing!
Welcome! Dead standing Ash is a good start. The upper parts of the tree are probably much dryer than the cord you bought. I would keep the upper portions separate from the lower portions. Burn the uppers this year, CSS (cut, split, stack) the lowers for next year. What kind of stove did you buy?
Welcome to FHC! What part of Ohio are you from? Just curious I'm from athens Edit: Never mind the location shows up in the profile box when you are using a web browser. I used to live up that way near Reynoldsburg but am now about 2 hours south of you.
38 pages of threads! Cert106 - I get up to reynoldsburg once a year at the state fire academy for the Emergency Vehicle Technician Symposium.
[quote I haven't heard of the Ideal Steel threads, Should I?[/quote] Thoreau's cabin, Jeff T has figured out, somehow , that I have been eyeballing the new "Ideal" woodstove that the Woodstock company is developing. There are some really good posts/pictures/videos on this site of the new stoves being tested and reviewed. I like your idea of a cabin in the woods, that's what I like too. Mark
