Hello all, new to this site and have a few questions on pellets. So after 20+ yrs burning
wood I installed a heatilator ps 50 in the basement. I have been going back and forth
with Logik-e and Energex premium 60/40 pellets. Logik-e do burn cleaner but I
don't see much of a increase in the btu's. Tried T/S white bag and they are poor.
So what else is out there ? I am in Lamoille County which is northern Vt.
Vt 802 pellets were 7 bucks a bag at a fuel dealer. Seems like a rip off to me.
So if anyone can give me a shout about a decent btu pellet please let me know.

Welcome to the forum! What's the pricing on the Logik and Energex? Also, can you post the UPC of the TSC bag?

5.90 pr bag Logik-e / 5.59 Energex premium. Not a issue about the prices. Just looking for more btu's.
T/S bags are long gone, but I may give them another shot. They cost 5.15

Here's a link when you go to TSC to see what may be in the white bag:

    New TSC White Bags

As far as btu's grab a couple bags of 802's and Vermont's, if you can find them, and see how they burn for you. Are you trying to heat the house from the basement?

Will do, yes we are heating the house. It's small approx 1,200 sq ft. As expected the trusty peerless boiler comes on when the pellet stove
can't keep up. That was expected, overall so far not too disapointed. Just wish heatilator bulit a 60,000 btu unit. The Harmon p61 was
not in the buget after the kitchen renovation.........

Welcome vtktm802. See if you can get your hands on some Vermont Wood Pellets. Here is Steve's review of them.

★★★★☆ - Vermont Wood Pellets (Review)

Also there is a brand of pellets in your area called Matra. They are 100% Eastern White Pine and sound like they could be promising. There is a place in Essex that sells them, Agway I think. Stay warm and have fun with that stove.

You have a good stove but it's usually a challenge trying to heat a house with a pellet stove from the basement. Give the Vermont's and 802's a whirl.....also what tt said with the Matra's.

X2 welcome to the group. :)

Do you have an Agway or maybe some feed stores in your area? Feed stores often carry pellets as well.

In your search keep an eye out for brands like Hamer hot ones. A very dense pellet that throws great heat. One I relied on when I had a stove that was slightly under the job requirement. A dense pellet is going to help get as much heat as possible out of the stove.

Good stove, I heat my whole place with my cab 50. Almost never run it past medium. Good luck on the pellet hunt.

Not many of us that are successful. Much harder to get the heat where needed.

Thanks to all for your info. So I found a few sources for pellets, local Ace/lumberyard has spruce points for 6.50 pr bag.
Dealer where I bought my stove has Lg's @ 5.50 pr bag and cubex. And the Agway in Essex has the Matra's @ 5.00 pr bag.
I may give the Lg's a shot and also Aubuchon is handeling a Vermont softwood but not sure of the brand. In all fairness
my stove is heating fine and I am a maintenance nut, just used to the high heat of the jotul wood stove. But I don't miss
busting my arse one bit with firewood. Let me know what you think of the Lg's ..........

Other than the price of them, you can't go wrong with either the Vermont's or 802's

Pellet stoves are a bit lower in heat but steady as she goes. You don't really get that blast of the wood stove. Takes a lot longer and is much harder(lack of BTU's) to get the heat up stairs with a pellet roaster. The colder it gets the worse/harder it becomes!! Many here have either went the 2 stove route, Put a honkin monster 60/70K or went to a Ducted furnace to get the heat up in the living are.

Are you using a stat or just running it at a constant setting?

Nope me neither. Just used as a back up source these days. Pellet stove has full honers of heating the shack!!

I have them on my test pile but haven't gotten to them yet.... I know a few here have burned them, I'm sure they'll chime in.

LGs are an above average pellet. Lower ash than a lot of them.

X2 - LGs are a very well established product with a good consistent reputation, suspect you will really like them. CleanFire here burns them almost exclusively and I know he likes them a lot. All the brands you mentioned are good; try to grab a few bags of each and see which ones you and your stove like best. Happy heating!

LG's are a good solid pellet. A good ways up the chart for heat and how little ash they produce. Not rocket fuel per say, But you should see some heat gains from them.

Keep us posted on what you think of them. ;)
