Wish I'd had the camera to get a picture of the tree before I cut it. I wanted to get the bigger logs out before the big thaw and rain that is predicted. We've had several days of thawing already and the last load was just that one butt log. Good thing as it was getting muddy in spots and I actually hung the dray on a sapling. Fortunately I was able to jerk it away using only the pickeroon. This is the butt log. This is what is yet to be pulled out. There are a couple more small ones behind that birch tree that aren't showing up in the picture. Making another log pile for the GTG so the guys so they can run the saws.
No. She stayed in the house. Her footing is not so great so don't want her out there with the slippery snow.
I hope to meet em both this spring at the GTG if I can make it. If what I read is true, I'm betting on it! Sav, glad you got out on Christmas day to enjoy the saws a bit. Take care! Hope your day was great!!!
Hey Dennis, I haven't been on here in a while. Glad to see your cutting again. I know you have a lot of back issues. I haven't gotten out yet this year to get any more wood. I miss it a lot. Something about working alone, getting the mind off other things, all while accomplishing worthwhile. I hope if enough snow melts and then we get a good freeze that after the new year I'll get to it. If your passing by again please stop and say hello. And this next time the Polish Coffee Cake is on me A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Judy.
I prefer cutting wood in the snow. Good job Dennis. I'll be out on the wood tomorrow. Hopefully there's at least an inch or so of snow left, as I'll need it for my tow sled behind the ATV.
Good looking pile your starting... Glad you were able to get out for a bit yesterday, always feels good to enjoy the outdoors on days like that...
We sledded wood down hills in one foot of snow because I was just starting out and wanted the wood and swore I would never get behind again, the winters here are so iffy, best to cut in the fall and or spring because you never know if you will be able to cut in the winter. I cant even get into where I cut with much snow on the ground, I dont even cut wood on my acreage if there is much snow on the ground.
Pete, we will welcome you with open arms. Looking forward to it. But I have to admit that was not on Christmas day for the pictures; it was Christmas eve. Glad we got them out to as it is now 53 degrees and a lot of snow has melted. There is very little frost in the ground too because we got the snow before the big freeze-up. Now maybe we can get some frost in the ground before it snows again.
andybaker it is good to see you on the forum again. Hope you can get out to get some wood. I know how busy you can get with the bakery especially pre-Christmas and we hope this year was a good one. For sure we will stop when going through and we always look forward to that Polish Coffee Cake as it is delicious. I like to pop it either into the toaster or microwave to heat it up nicely then lather on the butter. Yummy! Thank you for the good wishes and right back at you. For any others if you are going through the Toledo, Ohio area, a stop at Andy's bakery is a must!
oldspark we are wondering how you faired with this last storm? I can fully understand the iffy winters. When we live further north we too got the cutting done before most of the snow flew, especially when we lived in the snow belt as getting wood when there is 4' of snow on the ground is a bit of a task.
Yea might be the Lull before the storm. Hope winter don't show up with vengeance Not much snow here, frost is deep. We're 33° right now. slight chance of snow. A "burp" in the jet stream brought us some warm air Turns cold again in a few days.
I love cutting in the snow but can't get back to the bush now to much snow, been trying to talk my wife into getting a snowmobile.
