Yea like I mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm cheap. Ha. That's why I don't hAve one yet. I may have to get one though as much as my little boy likes helping. I'd rated him have the dead blow mallet hitting the wood than my lititle 3lb splitting hatchet!:bug:

Ok now I have a destination I want to visit! As a forester that's right up my alley. No idea a place existed!!

So when ever I get up there to visit Scott and who ever else lives in the area I will hit that place.

Give us a holler when your coming! There is a campground near there we stay at. We'll make a weekend of it.
I mentioned to Mrs. TD this would be a great place for a GTG. The museum will do a meal in the vintage "dining hall" for groups also

I received the gift a couple weeks ago but could not wait for Christmas so started reading.
    Book.jpg
I have to say that I thought this would be some really interesting reading but no have to admit, it is some super great interesting reading. I have not completed the reading but have got through all but the conclusion part of the book. As I told my SS Santa (not other than one Grizzly Adam) I've noticed a lot of paralels to this blight of the chestnut especially with how most have tried to handle the problem with the EAB and other tree problems.

I will highly recommend this book. As to the comeback of the American Chestnut, after reading I still have some doubts if it can be accomplished. Yet, there are many still trying. But how to replace billions of trees and should we? To re-establish them they will no doubt push out what is there now. Is that desireable?

    Thanks Adam.

Is desirable the word? Not sure.

There are many want the ecosystem as it was. God didn't really change this landscape. Man did by introducing non natives. So the demise is man made. I think we're years off and we still won't end up with what we had.

We see the same thing g here in the south with long leaf restoration, and now short leaf restoration.

Here's a pic of my ss gift. I almost teared up while opening this, as I hold the US flag very dear to me. I'll always treasure this and thank you FishingPol. 20161225_144208.jpg 20161225_145130.jpg

Cool wrench hooks on that old beam. Is it a real flag, a flag blanket? Is that flag a gift? Or is it yours already unicorn? Did the pillows come with it?

Can you picture those who love all the oak and other trees that are now where the chestnuts once were? Some may indeed want all the chestnuts back but some that never knew what it was like might not want what they have not to disappear to get the chestnuts. It may be a difficult thing to try to please folks. Isn't it always?

With my gifts coming from PA, I am still unsure about who my SS was, but all the thanks in the world to them. They certainly helped a "new" hoarder out with some staple items.
Merry Christmas, to the craziest bunch of hoarders this side of the nuthouse!!

I get the delimna. It's not like it would happen over night. And if you like your oak woods you can keep your oak woods. They can't put chestnut trees in place of your oaks. Your live trees won't dissappear and possibly would naturally not be replaced for hundreds of years assuming the neighboring property was restablished.

IMG_5073.JPG I received a FHC hoodie, some BBQ rubs, a Q'ing cookbook and a jar each of pepper mustard and bacon relish along with instructions to call Sean on what to do with them.

I'll be calling you soon Sean.

    And an FHC decal!

    Thanks.
