I got the same color scheme Williaty. So I'm definitely biased towards your stove!

Was warm again today so did an ash removal and door clean. I also decided to do a quick cat clean with vinegar and distilled water. Just the spray bottle method. Has anyone else done this? I noticed that after I sprayed it I heard a cracking sound here and there. It was very odd. Anyway after I rinsed it I ride it with a fan for about an hour. I only let the vinegar sit on the cat for about 2 minutes max.

Wow what a difference in the performance. If you have burned for a season already I highly recommend doing this.

On a side note I haven't ever asked anyone but ever since day one my cat always sounded like it had loose metal shavings in it. When you tipped it side to side you could hear material moving around inside the frame. Am I the only one?

Agree on the cleaning, does the frame come apart easily?

Mine sounds the same. I cleaned mine one time and there wasn't much but dust that came off of it.

Mine sounds the same. I did the 50/50 spray bottle method this year for the first time. Definitely made a difference in performance.

I cleaned ours for the first time (about 1/3rd-1/2nd cord burned) last week during a warm day. It needed vacuumed badly as it had some clogged cells. My wife could see some deposits inside the cells, so we put it into a loaf pan it just barely fit inside and poured straight vinegar through it until it filled the pan high enough to pass the half way point on the cells. I left it like that for 10 minutes, then moved it up and down a bunch like dipping a candle. Then I flipped it over to give the other side the same treatment. Once both sides had soaked and been dipped up and down a bunch, my wife said she couldn't see any deposits on the cell walls anymore. I then rinsed it repeatedly with tap water and finally distilled water before putting it back into the stove.

It does seem more eager to do a cat-only burn now.

I don't think you need to clean it that often. I've got about 4 cords thru it. My wood wasn't perfect last year but this year I'm good to go. 4 cords and I only got a little bit of debri out when i rinsed it in the sink. I've never had any cells clogged and I vacuum it out about once a month.

I'd be wary of using vinegar too often. It is acidic and repeated use might harm the cat. I'll probably do it once a year.

I got our IS last spring. Burned it all last season and all this season thus far. I keep meaning to have some distilled water on hand for the next warm spell so i can remove and clean the cat, as I have yet to dip the cat. Only vacuum and soft brushes so far. I will say I have to crank the stove a bit higher to get the cat to light, but once lit it will hold 1200-1300 cat temp for 2-3 hours before it begins to drift out

I did the spray bottle 50/50 cleaning a couple weeks ago. Had burned about a whole winter on it (put it in service last year beginning December, and cleaned it a little into December this year). I couldn't tell much difference, and the thing look pretty clean when I pulled it to clean it. But it was starting to show some smoke out the stack in the lower temps after cat engaging, and after cleaning the few times I've checked it in those ranges it is no longer smoking or very little so think it helped.

Merry Christmas everyone! I did my Christmas with my son yesterday so he could go with my ex to her family today. We made a nice breakfast. Today, being just myself and still a bit burned out from the big effort of making a large Thanksgiving meal a month ago I decided to make Christmas Chili this time. Got it simmering on the stove all afternoon.

It's amazing how stoves draw the animals to it. My dog lays so close I swear she's going to spontaneously combust one day.

Hmm, should I tell my wife she's an animal according to you?

A week or two ago she stood over by the fire warming her backside for a while and then came over to me to get a hug. Her bottom was so hot it made me jerk my hand away. I have no idea how she stands it!

Sometimes she lays with her head up on the brick.

A quick drink of water and she's back by the stove.

My Jack Russel in his last 2 years was loosing his mind and senses, he'd go right up to the stove. I'd have to push him away when I started smelling that scent of burnt fur. He looked at me like I was being mean or scolding him and sometimes would run off, sorry bud just trying to prevent you from catching on fire lol. A couple times it left burn marks on his fur but never did burst into flames thankfully! Poor fellow.

Well, I have no idea what I did differently, but the same loading of bricks and wood I've been using for the last several weeks still has coals showing light at 31 hours after I last loaded it and it made usable heat for 24-25 hours. It pushed the house up so hot I won't be able to reload it before I go to bed which means the furnace will be running by the time I get up tomorrow. That's just annoying!

Seriously, though, I have NO idea why this burn lasted about 12 hours longer than every other burn with similar fuel over the last month. It's crazy!
