Buddy had a saw dropped off to him from one of his buddies. Guy found this at the local dump - someone tossed it in the scrap heap.......! He grabbed it, gave it to my buddy, who then called and told me he had a saw for me if I wanted it - said it was a Stihl parts saw. I said sure thing - happy to have it. Well, this is what I found at my doorstop - pretty minty Stihl 024AV Super! Classic! Top end is perfect - not much use at all. Gave it a quick start and fired right up - but wouldn't turn off - the kill wire was loose. Crimped the lead and now perfect - wonder if that is why the owner tossed it??!! Gave it a good going over and cleaning - no other major issues were obvious. Waiting on carb kit, fuel and impulse line to arrive - will rebuild carb and replace those lines before running it much. Had to order an aftermarket fuel cap too - original was weeping gas. All said, about $35 in maintenance parts and I think I'll have a nice light saw for limb work and smaller wood + figured it would be a good saw for my 14 year old son to learn on. Early Christmas present indeed! Cheers!
My goodness man, that one ain't been used hardly at all.... but your buddy a case of his favorite beverage LOL.... Very nice!!!!
i tell ya I just put a gas line on a 024 I got.... only way I could do it was go threw the gas cap hole to the carb..... if not, you will NEVER be able to get the darn fuel filter on, once the gas line is installed... Hope that makes sense!?!?
Yes - line is pretty short - changing the filter is more of a challenge that it should be and I install the line just as you do for the same reason! Cheers!
To you as well Scotty! She is in pretty darn good shape! This is my first 024 super - will be fun to see how it compares to the 024 - probably not too much difference, but we'll see! Cheers!
