I have a Kent stove in the house that is very stingy on burning wood and I only burn good hardwood in it. I picked up a small Earth Stove (8 scallop) for the shop and it gobbles wood. All I have in the woodpile is hardwood, mostly oak, so the dead poplars on my property are are now getting dropped and cut. I also have a fairly large birch that fell across my tractor path and I cut it to open the path that will be getting my attention soon. I needed to clean up the dead wood but never got around to it until now.

A good smoke dragon has its advantages. My last one (Sierra) needed nothing but door gaskets in ~40 years. Showed no signs of needing anything but more door gaskets in the next 40 years. Maybe hinge pins. I wonder how long one would last if it weren't over-fired. 2-300 years?

I put new rope (1 inch is salty) on the door and I think it will hold all night but not positive yet. Only had it on there 2 nights and the first night I woke up in the middle of the night and loaded it and last night it held 9 hours with enough coals to re-fire quickly. Up till then it would burn out every night.

Yeah, I fiddle with a lot of different stoves and there is something to be said for beefy construction. Some stoves are built for the long haul and some are for the land fill.

I just refreshed the paint on a Drolet Myriad that was built in 2010, it had a stainless steel welded in baffle with secondary air tubes, no fragile anything in that stove. It is even more rugged inside than my Pacific Energy Alderlea, burned long too, 3.1cu ft box. I am surprised Drolet is not more popular.

Lets just keep that quiet, if they sell more stoves they might raise the price, I really like mine.
I have an expensive Summit collecting dust.
