The main giveaways why this would be Maple is the spalting of the heartwood Ash is typically white heartwood - with somewhat similar bark but no detailed chain-link pattern Hickory will always have a reddish-brown heart wood with a wider less detailed chain-link bark(depending on the species not applicable to shagbarks)
