Sorry you have to deal with this. End result is that if any of us really knew how to stop people from stealing, well, we wouldn't have to wake up and go to work. Some people just feel more entitled that others?
You'd be surprised how well a few strategically placd rubber snakes can work. Even in the winter they scare the hell out of 'em!
How close are your stacks to an electric source? I think a motion light would do a lot more to help than a sign about guns. A sign like this could help though:

That is not a bad idea, much better then putting M80's in the wood, rubber rats would be good also, if nothing else they will know they are being watched.
I hate hearing about people having their hard work stolen from them. Like was previously posted the thieves are lazy leaches on society. I feel fortunate that I have not had any stolen as of yet but like my wife said to me the wood is not very visible from any of the roads around here so out of sight out of mind. I like the camera idea and also a motion light.
I like the looks of that thing. Screw it into a motion sensor fixture and you get a picture when the light comes on. That should get a nice picture of the guy looking up to see why the light came on. All you need after that is a phone number to have the guy jailed. When I had a drill motor stolen, minimal value but over the limit for "petty theft", I definitely told the investigator "yes I will prosecute".
Did I mid-read that? I thought I read, that it could NOT be screwed into a motion sensor fixture. Most motion sensors don't come on during daylight. If so, then power to this camera/LED is not available during the day. At night, yes.
That's just plain wrong. People like that should get their fingers cut off for stealing like they do in my country. pizzes me off
I could have used one of them, but, only have motion sensing light fixtures. So, I was bummed when I read that.. oh well.. ~smile~
That comes from a true story. Buddy of mine is a cop and they caught a young guy breaking into a farmers barn. He pulled him into a car and asked him what he saw next to his barn. He said a backhoe. Buddy then replied," Farmers out here don't take kindly to people stealing from them. They take it personal as they work hard for all they have. They all have backhoes and 100's of acres and work at night. No one ever questions what they are doing. If you come up missing, I'm not going to waste my time looking for you. You're lucky tonight" He said the guy turned white. We had another one where 2 guys were caught trying to steal a dairy farmers ATV. They took him out in the soupy(best term I can say here) feedlot and drug him around playing oping pong with him till he was begging. One brother played semi-pro hockey and they are NOT small guys. When they called the cops and they came to pick him up they asked if they wanted them to hose him off because he had "slipped" when they were chasing him. Cop was quick to say no as they make the offenders clean the car if they make a mess. They still laugh about that one.
Lots of good ideas! I'll be keeping a close eye on the stack and with snow now on the ground, it will be obvious if anyone is poking around - if it becomes an issue I think I might lean toward a cheap solar motion light mounted high on a tree right near the stacks. Cheers!
You do not want a motion sensor light fixture for this bulb/camera. It has it's own sensor built into it so it needs constant power. I have taken my double bulb motion light apart to see how it worked and by just removing one wire I can bypass the fixtures motion sensor and power the light/camera constantly. Your motion fixture might work the same way. My friend came down from Ontario Canada for Thanksgiving and was showing me how it worked on his phone. He was able to change the brightness of the light and the video and audio is really good. Good enough that you could hear people's footsteps on the sidewalk from 50 feet away. The tech specs say that it can operate down to -4F but he claims his has been fine at colder temps.
