Ok, with Christmas almost here what is your favorite gift that you received as a child? For me it was my first rifle...a Model 290 Winchester .22 cal. I still remember that I was so excited I had my dad take me out right away and shoot it. It happened to be in a middle of a snowstorm and extremely cold, but he drove me out to a friend's farm that morning. Good memories of my dad and his favorite time of the year.
Weelll, since you ask............. We had a raised back porch made with concrete block with a little opening looking out to the back yard. A couple brothers were under there, with the other two outside.......shooting at each other. Don't remember anyone getting shot in the eye, but mom took the guns away very quickly.
My very favorite was this dollhouse that was made for my mother when she was seven years old. Her father made it for her while he worked on the tugboats of the coast. Many pieces of the furniture he also made. I still have it and will reluctantly give up when I get too old to play with it.
And so many "people" complain these days about the status of guns in movies, society at large, etc., and how kids are affected by movies, media, blah, blah, yak, but you turned out (almost ) just fine, right?
As a child I never got much so my first real and favorite Christmas toy was none other than the ornery one! We had met in the early fall but by Christmas time we were suddenly finding ourselves in love. It was and is still my favorite Christmas present and toy!!!! Think I'll keep this toy around for quite some time. I love you Judy.
I got a stick with a string on it with a rock on the other end. That's my favorite made up story I told my daughter when she was young. We still joke about it.
I had many over the years. Some very small, some bigger. One of my favorites was the present that you all got me last Christmas. One that my wife, my kids and I will never ever forget!
I always liked everything I got for Christmas, probably not one gift more than another....my favorite "present" was seeing that 15' tall tree in the living room lit and shining on Christmas morning. Ah, to think back on those years.....
For me, I recall getting a new sled, other times a metal constuction type toy truck. Most of our gifts were clothes, things like mittens and boots. We didn't have a lot of stuff, but were happy and I never felt I should have received more. We always had a nice gathering at my grand parents on Christmas Eve. Christmas day we had a nice ham dinner. Loved going to church at Christmas. Made us all feel good. I used to sing in choir.
Reminds me of a Chuck Berry song, about a toy given to him by his grandmother, consisting of 2 bells on a string ...
