Sun Making A Difference

Seems like the Sun is getting stronger, we are still seeing well below normal temps but when the Sun is out I'm getting a lot more solar gain helping out the house temps. Good sign Spring is getting close.

 

Just mentioned that to my wife this morning.
Looks like we'll be getting a few more days of cold, then a little warmer. Still below average, but I'll take a warmup.

 

Sun, what does the sun look like?
I agree if you see it it helps. I just haven't seen it for more than an hour or two here or there.

 

It was sunny here yesterday most of the day.
Nice, but odd.

 

Seeing 10 to 15° solar gain temps here too.
45 mph winds today. 22° , just plan cold out there.

Went over 8 hours, will be 9 hours on Valentines Day

 

I pulled out an old exterior basement door and installed a new one today on the south side of the house. T-shirt and fleece vest was all that was needed.

 

Tease.

 

I don't count on it but the long term weather shows mid 40's end of the month here.

 

I agree the sun is helping things. The lakes around here have unprecedented ice thickness, lots of lakes slated to have fish kills.

Tonight through Tuesdays with lows of -20/-17 then well see the 20's return.

Great lakes 80% iced over
Might break a record set in the 70s.

Not records you like to break with global warming going on.

 

It almost broke through this AM, but clouded back over....now there's another 3/4" or so of snow on the ground. Up in the high 20s felt like a heat wave today, though.
Next two nights are supposed to be 2 and 5. I'm thinking that's gotta be the last night that cold....doesn't it??

 

I've had enough cold and snow. Bring on the sun shine.

 

When I came in this afternoon there was 6 inches of new snow and the storm picked up again. I don't even want to look outside. I can't bear it.

SEASONAL TEMPS! JUST GIVE ME SEASONAL TEMPS!

I'm a simple man. I don't ask for much.

 

Saw the sun through the clouds. Two more inches of snow tonight. More due at the end of the week. Yeah, that sun feels good...

 

That a lot like the fire in my stove. It is comforting. We haven't had deep snow and drifts as we have had. This winter had ice, ice, and cold very cold. These old bones have no interest in being outside. We go out only we we need to, and it is just to the car or mailbox. Our kids go sledding and ice fishing etc. I'm glad for them. But for me, those days with no power and heat and having had to move the family gathering just sat the tone for the rest of the season. Like having a bad taste in your mouth.

 

Just looked up our heating degree days from last year vs this year. We're 30% higher this year for Dec/Jan combined. Almost 40% higher than Jan '12.

I know degree days aren't perfect, but its considerably colder than it has any right being.
