I grew up in Az. We did a lot of ice fishing in the White Mountains, even drove on a few lakes. He must not venture very far from the valley.

Yeah perhaps. Probably the same as lots of cities where some people just dont get out much. I grew up in Vancouver which is on the door step of many great mountain activities but many folks never venture off the pavement. I wouldnt have thought Arizona would have ice fishing but I dont know the state very well. How far is the White mountains from Phoenix? Ive been there twice, nice area. I looked into fishing while I was there but never did venture out. I did a bit of hiking though. It was strange to me how much sharp cactus there was everywhere.

The White Mountains are about 250 mi. North and East of Phoenix. High Country 8-9 thousand feet, a couple of places a bit higher. I always figured above 8,000 you can get snow anytime.

Weather is a real roller-coaster here. Kid you not, looking at -2 C (28 F) now. They're calling it 20 k wind, but somewhere around 30 k I hear the tin roof now and then. And I hear the roof. Big poplar kindling feeding the reactor.

Yeah it was bad last year as well. I actually had to stop ice fishing in February do to all the crazy warm weather we had. They are all good around especially after the cold weather weve had the last two weeks. Ive been so busy with work I havent had a chance to get out yet.

We are finally making some ice here after the warm Nov. The worst part is with the coldest temps we had the big wind kept the big lakes open with all the chop on the lakes. But it's calm now so they'll tighten up. The ponds are getting thick though.

24° and windy (not Wyoming windy, but windy none the less) I just tossed in a few chunks of mystery wood, it was too dark to tell what they were.
