Thank you for the suggestion - looks like a possible solution. I think inducer on a switch would be great. Turn on the inducer and eliminate the smoke in the firebox before opening the door and while the door is open. Close the door, turn off the switch. Huge fire boxes can produce a lot of smoke and when it billows out of the door while trying to load, it really sucks. Especially when you dont want to smell like the inside of the firebox all day, never mind the issues that it causes with my asthma or the handful of other issues. Thanks for the suggestion!!
I would consider using a timer, just to be sure it is not left on. A bathroom vent type timer, the cost should be insignificant.
One great point there Sawdog. In the winter months I hate to see our neighbor come here because all I smell is creosote and smoke from his OWB. He no doubt doesn't even realize how bad he smells. But then, he's came here stinking badly with diesel fuel, insecticide, etc...
On mine I have a bypass to pull out, shut the fan off and open the door. Ironically if I do the above steps but leave the fan on it will actually draw more smoke out of the door opening. Usually if it is burnt down or if I wait until it his burning hot under draft then I don't get as much smoke. Gary
