I was in Lowe's and saw the DHS 22ton unit on sale, I think its $200 off. Is anyone using one?

I really want to hold out for an Iron & Oak 34 ton, unless Santa's bringing me one. :)

I ran Pallet Pete dht 22ton at Backwoods Savage gtg this spring. Seemed like a nice unit. Definitely faster than my 22ton huskee (speeco).

Iron and Oak is a good choice for sure. Sold my 22 ton and got a 30 ton. Both were C/L finds.

Thank's! The commander bunny for president sticker was part of the deal.:smoke:You might want to look at the 27 ton Iron and Oak too.

I've got a DHT 22 ton I bought from Lowe's. I split the cost with my dad, brother and brother in law so there's 4 of us that use it, let's say it splits 10 cords a year. We've had it for 2 years now and have had 2 issues. The lovejoy coupling broke and the hydraulic return line got a split and leaked. Both times DHT took care of replacement parts, it was even out of warranty when the lovejoy coupling broke. The new hydraulic return line is about 4" longer than the one that came with the splitter, I think the original one was actually too short which is why it failed.

But we've all been happy with it so far and the customer service is top notch. The Briggs engine always fires up, it has one of the best cycle times out there and 22 tons has split everything I've put in front of it.

If the 22 ton is doing the job I could see no reason you would need a 34 ton. I remember when we bought ours I questioned rather a 20 ton would be enough. It has done the job very nicely.

When bocefus78 was splitting wood here last spring it looked good to me but I did not get the chance to run it.

I have the DHT 28 ton. You've got off easy so far but yes warranty service is very good. Did you replace the parts yourself? I did. They were having trouble finding anyone willing to work on it near me. Rather do it myself anyway.

First ram leaked while sitting. They sent a full new ram.
4 way wedge in full up position can contact the log stripper guards on return if there's any wood jammed underneath the wedge. Shreds the guards and 4 way if you let it. I did.
One of the high pressure lines blew right off. Tore the rubber off the fitting. Pressure worked its way under the nipple and imploded the nipple. Went by my moms head so fast she never knew it happened but we filled the field with oil real fast. She got lucky.
Love joy shredded. I think it wasn't tightened enough from the factory and backed apart until it blew.
    Think that's it.
Not a bad splitter but I definately got the Monday morning unit.

If you can save up for a better splitter, I suggest it. I ran a 27 ton troybuilt Home Depot special for years, and only had Minor issues. Once you spend a few hours with the higher end units, you will kick yourself for not switching sooner.

Yikes glad no one got hurt!! I have the 27 ton and have had zero issues with about 25 cords run through it. I would buy one again if this kne gave up the ghost tomorrow. Best $900 (Black Friday deal at menards 2yrs back) I've ever spent.

I agree. Splitting is the worst part of processing wood so you need to make it as easy on your self as you can.

Yeah I've got the 27 ton and have had no issues either. 2 years and about 12 cords so far. Hopefully it keeps on trucking. I always take good care of my tools and equipment compared to some people so that helps too. My friend keeps his splitter outside with a tarp over the motor. It hurts me every time I see it!

It's a log splitter not a Corvette. I keep mine with a bucket over the motor outdoors too. I don't have the space for infinite sheds/ outdoor buildings. A big chunk of steel with a few hoses and an engine is an easy candidate to keep outside.

My dad replaced the return line and my BIL replaced the coupling as the parts broke when they had the splitter. I called DHT both times to order the parts, I didn't even ask to have the work done elsewhere. You must have gotten the Monday unit, I did a ton of research before buying it and the DHT seems like a solid splitter from what I could find on the various forums. Knowing that someone from Lowe's assembled it I did go through and tighten EVERYTHING before I fired it up, some of the hoses were a tad loose. But I can't blame that on DHT.

Thinking back I guess I did ask for a service center. I assumed they would send me a set of seals to repair the leaking ram. That's above my pay grade.
Turns out they laughed at the thought and sent the entire ram. I figured they would want an authorized service center doing the work for warranty purposes. They had trouble finding one near me. I offered to do it myself and they were fine with that. I know it saves them labor costs but at least they know the parts are installed correctly if done by a real mechanic.

I bought mine from the web. It came in a crate almost totally disassembled. The only thing I didn't assemble myself was the engine/pump assembly connected by the love joy. I should have checked.

Been thinking about safety cables on all the high pressure hoses. Things are deadly when they fully let go.
I accepted the free replacement this time with reservations. Ever notice them getting strange and I'll pay for better quality elsewhere.
