Thanks for the warm welcome, sirs! The pictures are both of the same wood. The logs and the split piece are both the same.

 

Since I'm asking, how about this. Scooped it up today..

Then I vote pear-and then I vote w/the nutbag again (no names uttered or animals tested) and say poplar on the second

 

This is definitely southern yellow poplar. - great for the shoulder season stacks, dries fast leaves a bit of fine powdery ash - should be ready to burn next year if C/S/S now

 

If this all came from the same tree I'd lean towards Mulberry
