Personally I think 10 is fine. I also use 7 at work and that's okay too.

I don't think 10 really sucks, but they moved stuff and then they hid all the admin stuff. Since I don't use the laptop often (it is the one with 10), I don't have a chance to really get used to what has been done. 10 is a whole chit-load better than 8 though! I've had an update hang so badly, with a blue screen, that I had to hard reboot a couple of times until the laptop recognized it wasn't getting anywhere and "rolled back" to where it had been working. Eventually the update did get put on and worked - but it literally took hours. 10 and its updates probably work better on a clean install, so it will most likely be fine.

I never have issues with 7, so see no reason whatsoever to update my desktop.

I could swear that 3.1 had a start menu. Maybe it was 3.1.1?

Nope, neither. It came out in 95. Win 3.1 and 3.11 had program manager.

I don't know, I just remember running them. Win95 was a big hit because of the start menu. It over shadowed the inteoduction of reliable 32 bit processing.

I have been reading this thread and realized that I haven't commented and it is page 4 already. Nice computer with the snazzy lid cover. By now it must be well broke in. Did you get a bag for it so it can go all places with you?

Grizzly Adam Did you buy or get a protection agreement with it. One that covers accidental things etc. I have NEVER owned a lap top that didn't get broken. My desktops never have accidents. Love my double screen desk tops with the large screens. Anyway, I am glad you are happy with your new tool and hope you will be happy with it for a long time to come. Can't thank you enough for all you do to keep us up and running. Cat looks happy. Do you still have the other one?

Adam, you deserved this! Now I would like to warn you to not forget that you do need to sleep off and on!

Super nice job on the cover and that is one of the nicest touches I've ever seen. I have not studied on the newer processors but it sounds great and has to be super fast. Have to admit I also love that backlit keyboard. Awesome and I want one. But then, I also want to go back to a cordless mouse and Keyboard. I do not have a laptop as I still use the desktop and get along with it just fine.

Will be waiting for more updates on what all you have or bought with the computer and congratulations to a nice guy who does a great job.

No protection agreement, the only things I have ever had go wrong with a laptop was a broken screen, damaged power cord, or a serioys overheated problem that ended up being a class action lawsuit ending with everyone getting new laptops. The screen I replaced with a $30 part from ebay, and the power supplies run$10 or so.
We still have the three cats: Charlie, Ubuntu and George.

Dennis-- the backlit keyboard was on my must list as soon as I found out they existed! I do a lot of my work in low light for general confort :)
