This past summer when I met up with Well Seasoned for some hiking in the WMNF, I told her I was hiking with a guy I know from NH from an Internet forum on wood heat, to which she replied, "you're on an Internet forum?"

I burn mostly oak, but it's especially what I burn when it starts to get this cold. First few months of the winter I've burned pine and sycamore but now I've transitioned to all oak. Bigger pieces I set aside for all-nighters, but as long as I get a good hot fire going before bed, stuff it with oak, then turn it down, I'll wake up to coals and a warm house. Also I usually wake up at some point in the night, so I just get used to throwing one or two more pieces in around 3 am or so.
