Between 5"and 8" my calculations are we've received about 22"total so far this season. Get nearly an inch everyday, with another now and tonight.
I hate it when it does that, Snow's every day or every couple days, I have to keep shoving off my back deck so I can go get wood in my slippers
Were -22c currently but no wind at all. My house is 23c from wood heat right now but once we get a good wind I have to work harder at keeping the heat in. Stay warm!
Not burning at the moment. My wife had a good fire during the day that provided heat to keep us through the early evening. Forecast temp tonight is 27F, but we usually get a bit lower than AccuWeather. I'm anticipating 24F when I get up in the AM Overnight fire will be a mix of larch, oak, and shag.
Once we're done with this last rack, we'll have room to stack four face cord if we want. Depending on how much snow we get will be a big factor on what and where I cut.
Next year the shoulder season wood will be pine and after that some cherry but more soft maple, sugar maple, yellow birch and we have a nice amount of beech ready if needed. We also have over three face cord of ironwood, some we can burn this year along with some oak. I save the best wood for Jan. & Feb. We do still have some good size cherry that are down which will become spring work.
Just 2f now but the wind chill is -20. It will drop more over night, of course. But it ain't snowing! Clear moonlit night.
That's precisely why I'm burning ironwood and beech now. It's 1° out now. Flipping cold. But not inside
It would be neat to see some ironwood in action in the stove if you think of it. Edit: of course its not a wood that is around these parts.
I'll try to get a video of it burning this week. Thursday is supposed to be a high of a couple degrees. That might be a good day. I personally think the best combo so far is either shagbark hickory and cherry, or elm and beech.
Thursday evening through Friday afternoon, we can see wind chills as low as - 40. Will likely run wood and pellet. HDRock i too usually sweep the stuff off the deck and vehicles in my slippers. I really shouldn't, because i feel on my azz twice, both on steps.
Got called to work around 430 this AM and we were at 14F. Piled in some ash and ran out the door looks like 5-10" between today and tonight with 45 mph winds and temps around 15F so wind chill will be nice I assume
