Cheers I'd not come across that one , posted a few on hobbys thread . I'll take a look through that one
I, of course, was joking about that tree. It would be very sad to see it cut. I don't harvest on public lands, but I am pretty sure cutting live trees would get you in deep water. Even on my own land, I don't cut live trees for firewood. If I cut a live one, it is for another reason (disease, safety, thinning, etc.), and it will then become firewood. Between dead trees and forest management, there is enough firewood for several times my need. Beautiful photos!
They cleared almost 300 a couple of mile from me to build houses on , biggest around four feet at the base , shame but I filled my garden with it
20 feet long just under four feet high and any where between two an three feet wide , split some two foot lengths for the top so it's pretty flat for a tarp to sit in
Thanks Grahamt. Indeed it is much easier although some of the fellows on here might argue but I think it is mostly for fun. I have a problem standing so that alone will stop me from doing it horizontally. In addition, the real reason is I don't want to have to lift every piece up onto the splitter and don't want to have to build or buy a log lifter. Sitting I can just roll a log onto the splitter with no lifting. I try not to be too lazy but don't like doing extra work that is not necessary, like lifting the logs. I remember posting a short video perhaps a year or two ago on how I split but right now can't find it. Perhaps someone like papadave or Eric VW could find it?
I can't stand after that lot. Don't know if I could cope if I relied on it . Saying that iv loved the last five months wi fire lit almost every day
Dennis can't stand that long, and I can't sit on a milk crate like he does due to bad knees. Lifting rounds up to the beam isn't easy either, but at least I can do it. I'll stick with horizontal most of the time.
Iv a aching back and bad knees , I need a log chopping assistant . My eldest did a fair whack the other day for me
My kids and sometimes my wife help load it after I cut it. My 7 year old sometimes runs the splitter while I pick up the pieces to be split (or roll into place if using vertically). we have a kind of sign language thing going with all the engine noise and hearing protection.
