Rita was laying on one of the steps to the basement. Of course when I came back with my phone she moved so I didn't get the picture I really wanted. She was actually on the next step down. But, I think you can tell she's not a stupid kitty to hang out there on a cold day.

The top third of the stairs is the second warmest place in this house besides within 5 feet of the P61a. Even the top landing is colder than either of those two places.

Anyone have any experience with Viszla dogs? We've never had any pets but hte kids are getting older and we're considering a dog. We'd originally though about a golden lab until we heard about the Viszla breed and they seem to be too good to be true; no shedding, no nasty dog smell, very family and kid friendly, no loud obnoxious barking etc etc etc

They are a continental pointing breed of Hungarian origin. Favored by a lot of upland gunners in north America. Limited amount of breeders who keep the bloodlines honest. Somewhat pricey, but you get what you pay for. They make a great pet but are extremely intelligent and need a job to keep them mentally stimulated. Great choice...............

There's a reputable breeder in Maine. Not exactly right next door but definitely worth making a day trip to. The one concern we had is that we might not be able to give it enough exercise every day. We read they require a lot.

Have you considered a short hair Heinz57 from your local shelter? There is a lot to be said for genetic diversity, a fraction of the "cost", a "do the right thing" lesson for the kids, any breed can have behavior problems without training.

No offense but if your looking for a "no problems" pet, don't get a dog.

I have a friend who had a Vizla for it's whole life, something like 12-14 ish years. He just got another one. He loves them and his first one was a great family dog, and he also bird hunted with it. From the basic literature (I'm sure you've already read it), they are basically excellent hunting/active dogs that need some training and definitely exercise, but in general are very healthy.

On the other hand, we've always had good luck with our "rescue" dogs as DaveGunter . All of them had "problems," -- some bigger than others. Having a dog takes patience.
