First time poster here. I have a Harman P68 pellet stove. I bought it new perhaps 8 years ago. It's been flawless until last week. It wouldn't auto ignite. I began reading and was surprised to find that this is a common issue. I went ahead and ordered a new ignitor, which I installed today. Works like a charm. Hopefully this ignitor will live the same long life my first one did. BTW, great stove!

Welcome to the forum. Glad you got the stove back running.

Believe me, 8 yrs on the original ignitor is VERY good. It didn't owe you a dime.

    Welcome

The Harman Ignitors are supported at each end.
Most stoves, the ignitor is only supported at the wire end. The other end warps from the heat and then shorts out and dies!

    Luv the Harmys! ! !

After seeing your post 2 weeks ago on AnotherSite. I wondered what stove you had?

The P-68 is a beast. I hope this igniter sees just as long of a life.

    Oh and welcome to FHC.

Thanks guys. BTW, my stove has always been run in Auto and Room Temp mode, making it even more impressive the ignitor lasted this long.

    About pellets....
Two and three years ago, I used Lignetics. They were as fantastic, with low dust, low ash, and good heat. I now read that they've really gone down hill. That's too bad. Earlier this winter I bought the Premium pellets from Lowe's. They were very dusty. Just yesterday, I bought 1/2 ton of Somersets at another Lowe's. I read that they are very good. Dust is very low. So far so good.

Somersets have been my favorite for 6 yrs. Always good consistent quality. The Lignetics Green labels were bot bad, but there Presto Logs brand has always been slightly better (although both are pretty dusty).

The Blue and Orange bags of "Premium" pellets are American Wood Fibers new bag. Those are an above average pellet as well. Not as good as Somersets, but I don't mind burning them at all.

With the Premiums, I'd literally get a cloud of dust when I dumped in a bag. I don't get that at all with the Somersets.

This puts a tear in the corner of my eye. Eight years from a single ignitor is awesome. I am a little sad that it "bought the farm". Thanks for the post, cheers, and keep burning. Oh welcome aboard and send your annual dues, a 24 pack of Yuengling, also from PA, to Brookfield, Ohio.

The stove was out of pellets when I got home. Dumped a bag in, turned the stove off and back on, and voila, we have fire in just a few minutes? :MM:

My P61 had 2 igniters fail in the first 3 years. Both were replaced under warranty. I hope the one in there now lasts as long as yours did.

Next time the hopper is empty. Snap a pic? I have an empty hopper thread.

I'd like to see various models and how much of a full hopper it actually burns. My Enerzone burns all but a handful. :)

Glad your Harman is in working order again. That's a fine unit.

Are you using solely pellets? Or some gas/oil/LP?

It completely empties the hopper, exposing the auger. I'll try to get a pic sometime.

My house is a >1900 sq ft ranch. It's heated with a natural gas furnace. This pellet stove is in the basement. It's partially finished and we heat the whole thing. Of course, the heat rises, so should definitely help heat the upstairs. We have never tried to go without the gas furnace though. That would be asking this stove to heat >3800 sq ft.

I've been burning solely the past few years with the occasional oil furnace kicking on. 1500sq/ft x 2= 3000 and way further north so it heats very well. Mind you my stove is a lot smaller and this year has not been kind to the stove. My choice of pellets are nowhere near yours. Welcome aboard this beer drinking pellet burning bunch of clear heads you'll ever meet, welcome! Psst, don't fall for a pic of a empty hopper. You'll get side smacked by a skillet by the princess......:rofl:
