Got a call last Friday from one of our regular contractors about setting up a house demo job. They were planning on starting this Wednesday . Yesterday I started delivering dumpsters and toured the house quick just to get an idea of load count. Called him up and asked if I could pilfer the house pre-demo. He said have at it. Went over last nite after work with our service tool truck and trailer and came home 4 cast radiators and a timberline insert. I've been looking for cast radiators for a couple projects for quite some time. They are hard to find . 25 years ago they were a dime a dozen. There were 9 total in the house but due to the floor completely rotted out in places was unable to get them. Let me tell you the stove took some serious testicality to get out and and on the trailer. The rads were cake .
Ive searched local Craigslist for years and you can find them occasionally but $150 for small ones and up. I coulda made some phatcoin if I had the time. Some plywood over those rotten spots and I could have rigged them out . Wished I would have looked at it Friday when they called. The small one I want to put behind my wood stove for a water preheater. The others I want to use in a future greenhouse project.
Dolly and a ratchet strap made it easy peasey . That big one made my belly button an outie for about 4 seconds when I stood it on end to widget it on the dolly . The children I've never had felt it when the stove got bullied out and on the trailer.
JustWood I have a bigger radiator that was in our garage when we bought the place, it's got some fancy designs on it and it weighs a ton, I have no idea what it's worth but sounds like you might have a clue. It's been in my way since we moved in and would like to get rid of it. Could you give me a ball park what it's worth if i got since pictures and dimensions? Good score by the way!! Always nice to save that type of stuff before it goes in the landfill!!
I'd prolly search eBay or craigslist for something similar or if it's ornate just put a high dollar on it. You can always let someone wiggle you down on price. Small ones I've seen start at $100 and I've seen them up to $450
I'll grab a couple pictures, hopefully soon and look a little closer at it, I knew it was a more than scrap lol
