    Hope I'm not the only one that can't bring myself to split and burn all what I get my hands on .
    This piece now serves as a coffee / jd table next to the sofa.
    Just after some ideas with still been new to this wood cutting .

    That is a beautiful piece of wood! I'm sure many would gladly pay a good price for those but if they were mine, I surely would not wish to sell as they would become furniture for sure.

    Iv a pile awaiting ideas , started on a chair earlier for the garden .
    Having a beer with frost on the ground , next to fire pit pondering

    Thank you , it was six feet tall when I started chopping it for firewood . But it started to look nice . Spent two weeks sanding in my spare time then seven coats of varnish .

    Welcome to the club! I know just what you mean - I recently had a ~2 cord pile of curly red maple from a giant yard tree I cleaned up for a friend. I had to give most of it to my BIL because I would have never made it into firewood. :) I saved a few of the pieces but the biggest is only maybe 24" long. It's kindof a shame the tree service cut it all into cookies.

    A piece like that is prime for a stylized carver. They would basically do like you did and going one step further to carve part of an animal into a nodule as if it was forming out of the tree. I could see a river otter carved into a lower nodule looking out. Even an owls head looking out would be great.
