Just installed a flue thermoter on my baby bear instructions said 12" above top of stove. Hope that nobody has a chimney fire but it does happen , there are a couple of things you can have on hand Chimney flares work very well they delete the oxegen from the stove and flue hopefully before any damage is done The other thing that I know works well is fill zip-lock bags with ABC fire extinguisher powder these can be thrown in the stove or right down the burning chimney.I was a volenteer fireman when I was younger and we used both.
Anywhere that fills fire extinguishers should be more than willing to help you out take two or three baggies they may not even charge you ABC powder is pale yellow
