Headed over to a friends in the morning to take down two cherries and a maple. Nothing huge but it will help fill up some empty space in the stacks since bringing wood up To the deck for winter. Nice easy job, drive right up, use splitter on premise and a nice green tractor to help us along. Will post up some pictures tomorrow. Feel like a kid on Christmas Eve!!!

We didn't get going until about 10, drank lots of coffee and did a thorough assessment of the work to be done. Got lots of pics, gimme a little bit.

Second cherry. I'm not a experienced feller as you can tell. Used a open face notch with a bore cut. Went where I wanted but need more practice.

Wow! Those are some big prime cherry trees!

Lots of wood there for sure. I was burning some cherry this weekend. I can't help myself thinking it would be better served as fine lumber of some sorts especially those big ones...

Wow, that first cherry was nice and straight ( compared to the twisted ones I've got here )
almost a shame to see that cut into firewood.

Would've been nice to see some of it milled, no?

We thought of it, two problems though. I have no mill and there was a bunch of nails and stuff in the middle of it. He has another one that needs to come down that is twice the size and as straight if not more. I might look into an Alaskan mill for that one, I've been wanting one for some time.

Nothing like a little bit of metal to ruin a milling project....

Or a chain I spent a good amount of time on sharpening and was really happy with the outcome, doh!

The other cherry is farther back on the property so hopefully the chance of metal in it is less.

I love the smell of burning cherry too much to mill it lol. I just took three down about 16"dbh. I'm so excited I haven't had any in a few years. Also I always have Miller lite in my pics too after the power saw work is done
