Firewood on the half shell ...
99% beech, few pieces of red oak for good measure.
Had a special church service last night so I had my morning open, good day to get a load before gun season opens tomorrow.

Very nice. According to my brother this is #1 firewood. I'm not sure I have tried it yet. It's just not too common around here.

It's great firewood. About 26 mbtu's a cord. It dries quickly too, is ready in a year. Usually easy to split as well.

That puts it better than any oak, btu and drying time wise.

I have a lot of beech for at least the next couple of years. Hopefully more than that by scrounging and cutting more elm, cherry and box elder.

I can feel it now so it will be nice relaxing in my stand tomorrow. The place where I have been cutting is leased to some hunters so I guessed they wouldn't be in there today bow hunting which proved to be correct. The farmer that owns it wouldn't care if I cut while they were there, as he has said as much, but I try to be considerate.

Hunting is relaxing until you pull that trigger (or your son does) then it becomes work. Tomorrow is first day of rifle season here in Pa too, good luck . I hope we're done relaxing by about 8 am LOL!

Nice job LP! I also think Beech is close to the top of the list for firewood. You have been cleaning up this year getting premium wood and lots of it...

How's the splitting and stacking coming with all these truck loads?

Last year it was 9 am on opening day of gun for me, but that buck took quite some time to get drug up and out. I would be fine with another one of those days, good luck to you as well.

I have about 4 cords around here that need split. I don't think I posted the last load of oak and hickory. I would be happy if I could get about 4 more loads like the one today before spring.

Nice score. Never had and beech although a bunch has been dangling in front of my face for a while. Wife's cousin keeps saying he needs to thin some out of his woods, haven't got the call yet.

Did that for sure. I really had another reason besides just wanting to cut a load (of course I don't need much reason). I knew if I sweat like a dog today I could set in my stand longer tomorrow with out needing to climb down if you know what I mean.....

Beech is great stuff, BTU's and it's relatively clean while handling. Heads up as the limbs seem prone to breaking when felling, and many are hollow ( at least around here). Enjoy:dex:
