Thanks for the offer. What's a hay hut? Why change?

Google shows me they are for round bales. Makes sense for your horses. What are you up to this weekend. Maybe I could stop by?

Being they are semi permanently mounted on the nursery side of the barn they serve double duty as a place for the kids to get in during kidding season. The sheep get kicked out to the back pasture. I put a wire panel on top to keep the sheep out of it when its used for hay.

On a completely separate note, we witnessed our first "covering" this morning. Reeces, being a ram lamb and Tilia a full-grown ewe, he figured out how to use the uphill side of the slope to his advantage. If all goes well, lambs around 4/21-ish.

Updated hay feeder design. Put some plywood on the top to keep the spillage off of their backs. One side folds down for loadingand cleaning. Then added a quick roof. Should be ready to rock and roll now.

Here's a picture of the three ewe lambs (and TickTack the Greyhound) from yesterday. It seems to work great for them.

Missed this, and I don't think it came up when you stopped by.

Horse Feeders | Horse Hay Feeders | Round Bale Feeders

Hay huts protect the hay against rain. They are significantly more expensive too ($700+), which makes the payoff different when you're feeding smaller amounts of hay. Our horses are spoiling less hay with hay huts than they did with hay boxes.

The ewe lambs are hilarious somtimes. 2 bales of hay and a scrap of plywood = hours of entertainment
