Took down a couple of ash in the woods at my cottage....(I was sposed to be turning off water for the season!) and was all wound up at the end of the day....figured I'd take down two shagbarks that I needed to get from behind the cottage. Hated to take them down, but they needed to go for a future garage..... Anyways, love that hickory. Will get it split this weekend with the Gransfors.....
Haha Grizzly, I wasn't quite sure what you were referring to, as I didn't think you could see any of my maples in the pics! A quick visit to the inter webs, and well, I will most definitely be trying to make some shagbarks syrup! Didn't know it was a thing. So have you tried it yourself? I just visited a couple Google links, and wondering if anyone has a fav recipe??
Yes, I'm fascinated by them Oldman! Most of them out of pine so far, a few cedar for the backyard hockey rink, and I did a hickory one for next year as a gift for a buddy who said he would love a shagbark one....I will start a separate thread sometime of a few pics!
I get some shagbark hickory off logging sites. Last week I got some pignut and didn't know what it was. My logger buddies clued me in.
