anyone ever rent a truck from Home Depot to haul firewood? I have eco bricks and a couple loads of pine to pick up, but my truck is down for good. Was thinking of renting one on Friday during my day off. Just womdering if anyone has rented one anf if they had any problems?
I've rented equipment from them and it went smoothly, but never a truck. I'm not sure if their trucks are this way, but I was told they don't reserve the equipment so it's first come first serve. They did tell me that if I call when they open in the morning they can hold it for me for an hour or so if I'm on my way there to get it.
The one I looked at in the parking lot was a flatbed not a dump, even though it looked like a dump bed.
I would just go with UHaul or Budget. Genrally I have found UHaul's equipment better than Budget's, neither is close to Penske's, but they don't do local (I think).
I rented one yesterday to haul home a load of lumber for a project because my pickup is also down. It is a flatbed, not a dump, but it worked perfectly for my needs. If you do the hourly rental (that starts at $19 for 75 minutes) and have everything organized, it can come out pretty nice but they charge an extra $5 for every 15 minutes over the minimum so be ready to drive, load, unload and return before you even start. With my lumber load they started the clock after I had the truck loaded at the store so for me it was drive home, unload and return with a full tank of gas. There was no mileage charge and the rental was far cheaper than anything similar from U-Haul. U-Haul in the same size was about $19 plus $0.66 a mile. I was thinking I would be coming in at around $100 for a U-Haul but got the actual minimum $19 charge at the Home Depot. The plus side of the U-Haul is that I could have dawdled with no penalty.
Watch the rental agreement. I have rented from UHaul and the agreement was very specific: No firewood, coal, topsoil, gravel, etc... Nothing that would make the truck really dirty. There was a hefty clean-up fee specified. KaptJaq
Last UHaul I did, when I returned it they commented "you have been to the dump, haven't you." Yep, there was a bit of a smell. Not from inside, which I cleaned well, but from the tires. But there was no extra charge or anything.
I've rented numerous tools from Home Depot. I wouldn't hesitate to rent a truck from them if I needed one.
It is at the discretion of the point of return. If your truck was clean inside they probably didn't feel the need to have that discussion. It was in the contract last time I used UHaul, about 2 years ago... KaptJaq
I just always assumed that if you rented from HD, then you had to be purchasing product there from them to haul home. I didn't know you could just go get their truck and go elsewhere. Maybe they don't mind either way?? It would seem funny to rent a HD truck and then go off to TRACTOR Supply to buy a ton of wood pellets or something.
I rented thetruck at the Rochester, NH HD, to haul my pellets one year. went back to rent it again the next year..... and no more truck. Turns out that the Truck wasn't rented enough , so they got rid of it . Now that there is a Lowe's in town , I wonder if they changed that.
