I was cutting some rounds I have to length today. After I got done with that I split a small pile of ash rounds I had lying around. I was a bit sad since ash is my favorite wood and used to make up a large part of my stacks. Now I have only a couple cords worth. It won't be long before it's just a memory.
I hear you. White ash are/were a regal tree. The EAB is a horrible pest. Where are we going to get out baseball bats, hockey sticks and snowshoes? Aluminum and plastics? Never the same as Fraxinus americana.
Happens every year ? Maybe the wood is just a coincidental correlation and the sadness is really just from the short days. and maybe it's just the loss of the wood the loss of a pile of wood is a horrible thing to go thru. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Anyway. Happy Thanksgreiving !!
Yeah, Barry Bonds really liked performance-enhancing maple bats. Supposedly you get a little more distance out of the ones that don't break.
We have a huge ash to do on Friday, and just picked up another one last evening. Big, mature trees. It really is a shame how quickly that little bug devastated this tree. I'll be cooking most of my maple syrup this coming February solely on ash wood. I've got a mountain of it here. And it really is a fantastic firewood.
rdust, that same thought has been hounding me for years. But we can put a temporary fix in line for you. Show up here on April 22, 2017 for our GTG and don't forget to bring that big trailer of yours (and also the family!). We'll fill that trailer with ash before you leave. But even if you don't bring the trailer, I hope you are able to show up that day.
