I was thinking about winching one of these down and the other I was thinking about using the pole saw, maybe the wind and the snow brought them down.
Same here Locust Post , I was telling Sav our plan was to burn cherry until we get the minus weather moving in. Once we lose some of this snow I plan on getting our seasoned ironwood inside and then we can mix it in with the cherry when the minus weather hits. Once we hit January & February we'll get the oak, ironwood, beech and the sugar maple going.
I really don't keep mine separate, just happen to have some cherry and aspen burning. I rarely ever cut aspen or poplar just happened to have a few aspen trees that I had to drop for a farmer and brought some home. I really wish I had more of that for the evening fires from 6 to bedtime.
I'm sure something came down. You got alot of heavy wet snow all at once. You going to get the sleds out to see what came down?
Aspen, poplar, basswood, cottonwood, it's all great for quick fires that don't turn the house into a sauna in shoulder season. It lights quickly, and seasons quickly.
Yeah Zap, are you going to get the sleds out for a couple days? Good way to check out those cherry to see if they still stand.
They're getting their three year go through, we hope to have them on Friday but with Thanksgiving this week it might not be until the beginning of next week. If we still have the snow when we get them then we'll take them out on our property, the county trails open up after rifle season is done. The last day of rifle season is Dec. 4 in NYS so they should open on the 5th. We usually don't have enough snow on the 5th but we'll see this year.
How about putting the bucket up against them and giving them a shove? Bucket about the height of the top of the tractor. Just be very careful. The front end will no doubt go up but should not go much over a foot off the ground. Just keep that foot on the clutch!
Am I missing something? Looks like nothing to hit, so make a face cut and drop in the direction of the lean. If there is some complexity here that I'm not appreciating, please somebody let me know what it is so I don't do something dangerous on the next tree like that that I take down.
I took a trail clearing trip around thewoodlands , these cherry are both still up. The trails were mostly clear except for small branches. I did see a small topped off beech on my ride so maybe by the middle of next week I can get it. Rifle season ends Sunday so it will have to wait because it's in a area near the line where some people hunt.
