This is my second year burning, and man do I enjoy it. I wake up at 3:30 for work and love drinking coffee and watching the fire. Best part of my morning by far. 41 out but oh so toasty in here.
I started burning in 1979 when I built my place and couldn't afford the oil in the first oil crises. Somewhere along the way, I got some pay raises and the price of oil came down, but I still kept burning. It just gets to be in your blood. I can't imagine going back. I'm 66 now and the body doesn't like dealing with the effort so much. But the toasty warmth of the woodstove and the glow of the fire. It makes the winter a much more pleasant experience every year.
It's a primal love affair, man and fire. I've played with fire since I was a little boy, always getting into trouble for it. The entire firewood lifestyle suits me perfectly. I love every aspect of it, from taking the trees down, bucking them up and hauling them home, splitting them and eventually stacking them. I find myself admiring the woodstacks quite often, I like to see them in the changing seasons...... And there is absolutely NOTHING like the coziness and comfort that a wood fired home gives you. Especially on a raw, cold snowy day......
Which for us, may start this weekend. Plenty of coffee, plenty of filters, plenty of cups (I use the same one every day),....gooder to go.
They're calling for possible 6-10" here. I just mowed the grass and mulched the leaves this afternoon, I'm ready!!!!

I'm not much of an early person, I'd probably fall asleep if I sat down and watched the fire. Glad you can enjoy it though! I'll save my enjoyment for the evening.
Wow! Time to get the sled out? Only rain and rain/snow mix here along with colder temperatures. Looks like the 24 hour a day fire begins very soon for many.
Well, they've since downgraded it to a possible 4 to 6", I'm betting we barely get a dusting......lol
I like the early morning fires with a cup of joe too....especially when it is blowing snow sideways in those cold February days.
