After my stroke in 2012 they put me on the statins, bp meds amd other crap as well.

I have been on the 81mg aspirin forever.

The side effects of the Statin and the BP meds were to the point that I tossed all that crtap in the trash and just use the 81 aspirin daily.

    The side affects were horrid.

My arteries are clean as a whistle.
The huge kidney tumor was likely the cause of the small clots getting loose. (Per the kidney doc)

The side effects of the Statins have still not totally abated even after being off over a year.

In some people these drugs trigger a muscle wasting type thing that once started does not stop.

I lost a buttload of major muscle strength within a short time after starting the Statins.

The BP meds caused major issues with the guts.

    NUFF of the stuff.

Just wish there was a way to reverse the damage caused by the drugs.

    Oh well.

I hear you Snowy, drugs including that 81mg baby aspirin type are nothing to fool with.

I just quit statins for the side effects issue. The docs were so reluctant to have me discontinue their use but what good is it to not be able to walk and have a great cholesterol count. I'm half suspect that the pharmaceutical companies came up with the sub-200 number rather than medical science. This last time getting off statins was the hardest, as muscle strength and joint pain has not gone away yet, although it has lessened a bit. To those of you that have high cholesterol, google "statin side effects" and educate yourself about this problem.

I read this morning where they are now recommending that anyone over the age of 40, regardless of medical history or family history, be tested and put on statins if their cholesterol is high. I thought, "uh-hu, the drug companies want to push more drugs."

My cholesterol was like 160. My hdl was above the number. My ldl was normal. Everything was fine. Doctor says, you should watch your salt intake. I told him I don't salt anything but French fries, which I have maybe once a month. And nothing else. And 90% of the food I eat I cook, nothing gets salt. Still writes it up in his report he suggested i should watch my salt. He also says, I am not going to put you on any cholesterol drugs today. Yeah, no chit. I hate doctors

Had not opened the stove in over three weeks, so today while it was off all day because of the warm weather, I decided to ck it out and clean the glass. There was the typical ash, but no speed bump in the burn pot. About a month ago, I did the leaf blower thing. What a disappoint that was. Gray dust, and that was all I got. I run the stove on the stat all the time now. When I ran it on stove temp, I used to get the speed bump and would need to scrape. With the stat, I only need to make sure the ash doesn't accumulate. Current pellets being burned are Natures Own. I think they were some of Lowes bargain pellets from last season.

On that theme, an article just appeared in Lancet, a British medical journal. In it, they said patents on cholesterol drugs were expiring and generics would be available. In the very next paragraph, it was suggested that folks feeling stiffness, soreness and muscle were just imagining it due to bad publicity regarding statins and patients should continue to use them. I checked on who ran the study and you guessed it, a pharmaceutical company.

Save, next time you run the stove for 3 weeks without opening the door...when you finally do shut it down to clean it, can you take a picture of the inside of the firebox and post it here? We have the same stove, so I'm curious to see what the inside of a P68 looks like, the burn pot in particular, after 3 weeks of burning without so much as an occasional burn pot scrape.
