I have a new policy that is renewing in December, should I do one claim now and the other later? Or can I get both done with one visit to a shop? My drivers door was blown backwards in an 80 mph gust. Windshield caught 1 rock, then another, now they created a nice crack in my line of vision. Thanks for any input
My thoughts are get the claim done. Thats why you buy insurance, no? As these sound like comprehensive claims, they would be non-chargeable, right?
Yes, I have comp/collision on it, its my Duramax. AND, yep, I do not know the difference between the two..... I do know I have a $500 deductible. Can you teach me?
With Comprehensive coverage, your insurance company pays for damage to your auto caused by an event other than a collision, such as fire, theft or vandalism. If you hit an animal, or if your auto is flooded or stolen, Comprehensive coverage will apply. If your car is damaged or destroyed in an accident, collision insurance coverage will typically pay to fix or replace it. Types of covered accidents include hitting another car or hitting a stationary object, like a bridge or a tree. I still think that a claim against the comprehensive portion of your policy does not affect the rates of the policy. But, I think that a collision claim does affect the rates of your policy.
The $500 deductible you have is probably for collision. Make sure you have comprehensive insurance before you file a claim. You could also have a $500 deductible for comprehensive, but it does seem kinda high for comprehensive deductible.
Got it!! Thank You Yes, Comprehensive. I will go for it next week I have been behind the wheel since 1986, not one accident, even after driving 40-50K miles per year for 20 years
Yes Dave, you are very kind to explain it. But what I do from here on out is my decision. No worries, OK?
Two separate claims? If you do have a deductible on comp. You will have to pay the deductible twice more than likely. Gary
If car insurance is anything like home insurance, that is the case - regardless if you make one claim or two, the deductible will be paid for each. If possible I would do it all in one trip. My reasoning is, that although it is 2 claims, at a quick look it will look like 1 claim. If you wait a year, there will be a gap, and it will be obvious there are two. May, or may not, be important in the long run.
Even calling and asking about a claim will effect your rates, just saying. Google Clue Report. Good Luck whatever you do. What companies report Insurance companies report all claims for which they: Pay out money Set up a file for a possible claim Formally deny a claim
Thanks Everybody! I went and found my policy, I have a $500 deductible on BOTH collision and Comp. Well I need to get them done, so going for both at once.
The good thing is it looks like you only have one claim as the windsheild should be under 500.00. I would price that out and if it is under 500.00 just pay for that and don't even bring that up to the insurance company. Gary
I just remembered that some companies do fix windshields without applying a deductible - so check your policy on that.
Very true! For whatever reason, my company a couple years back decided to give me a waiver on the deductible regarding glass. Nice.
