Down into the 30's last night. I lit the wood stove in the middle of the afternoon. Our downstairs is often much cooler than the rest of the house. Baring our bedroom. After I got it going, I went on my my walk with the puppy for 3.2 miles. Wore my Pat's hat and a nice flannel fleece shirt from L.L. Bean. Both kept me warm. With the sun gone and a descent wind, it was a bit cool already. Still felt good to come into that inviting warmth from the wood stove.

I find is mesmerizing to sit and watch just the gasses at the top burn. So different from our old Soap Stone Stove.

This morning with the time change, I woke at 4:30. By 5am I gave up going back to sleep and went down to load the stove. Worked out well. The living room was at 69 and just enough coals to get it going in short order. One major plus with these ENVI-8 blocks, one package burns a good 10 hours overnight. Even if it had gone completely out, they are extremely easy to light.

Will you let it go out today or keep it going?
I decided to not light a fire yesterday since we were up to 14 c. Its been real nice the last couple of days with this pineapple express that weve been experiencing. Currently its 0c with the typical frost but the sky is clear and it should be warm again today. Im thinking Ill have a spruce fire tonight.

I always let the fire die out in the day with this nice weather we've been having so far this November. Too hard to limp the stove along even with my small firebox. If I make a real fire, I have to open the windows! If I believe the weather network, it looks like at least a week more of 2x a day fire starting. Pretty busted up about that...

Still 57 OAT, going down to 36-37,...... officially.
May have a small fire before going to bed, so the house isn't too cool in the AM.

I've been wanting to see how long the thermal mass could keep me warm. House temp down to 68-70 (apparently still enough heat coming out of the ground to get to 70 in the day, but not quite enough at night). My mind wanted me to keep doing the experiment. It was overruled by my azz which I just could not manage to get warm. So a pine fire it is!

It's 56° , from our record high of 67. But we didn't have a fire in the last few days, and we wanted a fire, so basswood it is in the quadrafire.

Nice and warm in the house.

It's still 50 out but I decided we would have another fire with some cherry.

They said we would have a cold front moving through but nothing yet.
