I was told by the one brother there wasn't going to be Hunters there for next 3 weeks. Probably why the guy came over there, heard the saw
Well , here , I've called in moose running the saw Maybe he thought deer would come to the sound of the saw ? Called in a hunter if nothing else
Yes, usually a confrontation has a negative connotation. Not this time. Yeah, walnut isn't the best wood, but if it's easy to get, then go for it.
Normally I am a wood snob and only take red & white oak, hickory and a smattering of cherry. Walnut splits nice and burns with a great blue flame for campfires. I found it coals up and then doesn't give off a lot of heat and has more ash.
I was always told not to use Black walnut sawdust on the garden for mulch as it is toxic for the plants. Not too much worry around here of that happening but at the other end of the island, people plant them for the walnuts. when they are cut down, I guess the sawdust would be available.
Funny how when you do an nice job for people and respect their land they are nice to you. Who would have thought??? Hope all is well for you.
I have burned a fair bit of Walnut. It is a pretty decent wood in my opinion. I think it has a good mix of fast seasoning and reasonable BTUs
No problem if it is late in hunting season and I might be cutting some this month but out of respect for others I will limit my cutting to mid-day. Will do the same for the later muzzleloading season. One problem we face though is turkey season in the spring running about the same time as our GTG. But if we're right, we should have the GTG just before the season opens here next spring. That will be good. I don't hunt them but do have some friends who usually come to hunt them. I'd prefer dropping some bombs on those stupid birds.
Cut another load today and he was right, there is a lot of logs laying within 6' of the mowed area. The muddy drive was fixed today and breaker rock was hauled in so access is going to be easier.
