Today I was out cutting and the landowner came out and confronted me. He asked why I was working on the pile of black walnut I was cutting. He then told me to drive through his yard because there were a whole bunch of black walnut logs that were much easier and bigger across the ditch. I was unaware it was there.

He also said the drive lane I was on has a low wet spot that is muddy. He has a contractor coming in to fix the grade and haul in some breaker rock.

This 120 acre parcel will get logged this Winter once it freezes, the loggers who started this are friends of mine. They cut the walnut last fall when prices were up.

Walnut isn't my choice to cut but it's what I have right now. 6 loads down, 24 more to go.

Same thing here....with a name like Firewood Bandit what do you expect, right? :smoke:

I have no experience with black walnut; why isn't it a good choice for firewood? Seems like it should be!

Lower BTU's, but still useful- when I burn it it creates a ton of ash......
It's been the mainstay of our 4 shoulder season fires this season.

Seems that even though it is a hardwood, it is turning out to be the "pine" of hardwoods? Makes great furniture anyway!

Yeah it shouldn't be in their bedding sawdust/shavings/pellets.
There's some leaves they shouldn't eat too. The wild black cherry here is one of them. Might be just when they are green - not sure.

Black Walnut sawdust, c.an cause problems for some People , it bothers me a little bit, working with It In the WOODSHOP, but doesn't bother me cutting firewood.

Allergies/Toxicity: Although severe reactions are quite uncommon, Black Walnut has been reported as a sensitizer. Usually most common reactions simply include eye and skin irritation. See the articles Wood Allergies and Toxicity and Wood Dust Safety for more information

I got confronted by a hunter with a Flint lock.
There was some confusion between the two property owner Brothers, about who was supposed to be hunting at that time and who was supposed to be cutting firewood .
The hunter just wanted to know why I was there, but he was not happy about it.
I really didn't care for it much, being confronted by someone pizzed off with a gun.
I started asking him about his gun and we talked and he calmed down, I really wasn't worried about him shooting me, he wasn't acting that bad, but it was uncomfortable
