Wood Transport in Snow

I'm thinking about buying a rope pulled sled for my daughter / wood transport. Any recommendations? I should probably avoid thin plastic although some of the saucers have fairly thick plastic. I tried wheelbarrowing wood last night. It's getting ridiculous with this much snow. My wheel gets buried even when I scoop out a path with the shovel. A sled is pretty much the only option for me now.

Look for something like this, they make them with a rope for pulling. Your local bait shops or even some big box stores can get them.

 

I have some friends that park at my house to go ice fishing, short walk to the lake, and they got their sleds from Gander Mountain or Bass Pro. They say the sleds are pretty durable and look like they will hold a decent amount of wood.

 

How old is your daughter? Mine is 6 and my son is 4. We used these sleds that we picked up last year at Lowes. Decent quality but we didn't exactly give them an overwhelming test..

 

Daughter is 2.5. It would be fun to pull her around on the snow.

I run the snowblower on the tractor to keep a trail open. Wood pile to driveway about 200 ish ft.

They sell "tub" sleds at Walmart that would work well.

My Dad had one he build a metal frame around with a tow bar and towed it with the snowmobile.

 

I like it. Young loggers.

 

Our high wheeled lawn cart actually does pretty decent in the snow. The tall narrow wheels and tires cut through the snow.

 

Yeah...that cart has big wheels and my wheel barrow front is low, so it gets stuck down in the snow. Also, pulling is better I've found so the nose doesn't get buried. A wheelbarrow is useless with this much snow.

 

The cargo sleds I bought back in 2010 are called Jet Sleds. You can do a Google search for lots of photos of them. Seem to be pretty rugged. Back then, I paid about $75 each.

 

I have a couple jet sleds. They are ice fishing sleds. Pretty damm tough. They come in several sizes too.

Get 2 of the cheap plastic ones for kids
Double them up & lay in a thin piece of plywood, when using for wood
Good to go.

Lined up a plastic sled with a rope used for $5 or $10. Sweet. Each load will last me about a day. I'll get a picture of my silly rig once it's loaded up. Hopefully, it's not purple or pink or something unmanly.

Can I put a Firewood Hoarder's vehicle wrap on it to recruit new members into our exclusive organization?

 

Could always redneck it like my buddy! Upside down car hood with a chain or cable hooked up!

Parents have this old 6 foot Ash toboggan in the garage at their acreage.It was far from new when my 4 older siblings & I first went sledding with it 40+ yrs ago.Last time I used it was Jan 2011 to bring a few wheelbarrows worth of recently felled dead White Oak a couple hundred feet to the shed.Snow was about 15" deep,sure didn't want to carry all that wood on my shoulders,JD 110/trailer don't go in deep snow & couldn't get the fullsize pickup close enough.

Works great,just remember not to load it up too much (especially if you have a incline) plus you have to stop it once it gets going good down a hill......
