Help! What am I going to do? The township is removing large, aged trees that they deem to be to close to the highway--I've seen them with a big white "X" on them around where I live--well this morning after I voted I took a different way in to the salt mine and OMG! there were four giants brought to their knees just laying there for the taking! Maple and (my favorite) Oak! I'm so nervous that someone else will come along---I mean my stomach actually turned and I was within seconds making plans to get "out of work" somehow to go get some of the pickins...
Most scroungers don't have the equipment to handle the big stuff so you have that in your favor. Just don't let them lay too long.
I'm always amazed around where I live how many people either don't have jobs or don't work during the day and can grab that stuff within hours. Of course this year with all the dead ash trees we've got in the area it seems nobody is scrounging anything, it all lays there for months!
Very true. Another tip....don't cut any more than you can haul away that trip. Cutting it just makes it easier for others to take it.
In situations such as I've described I'd only cut enough to make it manageable to throw in the back of the pickup--this is close to the road and my ars will be right out there---hey another way to attract... attention...
And in that same line of thinking, take the smaller stuff first... More people will balk at the big stuff due to lack of equipment to properly process it..
Do you have the equipment to move it whole? Also, can you sweet talk a town or tree guy to load it onto a trailer or move it for you?
Two things...first I've never involved anyone else in my obsession as they already think I have enough and run the opposite way---oh wait a guy from work did help once as the goods were at the bottom of a knoll along the highway and I needed him to sit on the hill with his 4-way flashers on--he then accused me of "using him" as I drove away...secondly it's close to the road--maybe 12' and there's a big ditch between my truck and the wood--that will be enough commotion in itself--especially if I slip into the ditch while hurrying, heart pumping at an accelerated rate, afraid someone's going to rear end me or yell from across the street---yikes what have I got myself into?....I crave those BTUs but not the BTUs (brown tinted underwear)...ha!
Um.....that's no sir. She is a wood cutting, gun toting, hard working female Hopefully without brown tinted undies : ) lmao
!! Great that you voted !! Good Karma Relax, deep breaths ... (LOL ) It's up to "Karma" now Alaska is "Rooting for you"
scavenger you've got it bad! I have been in the same pair of shoes and it seems that you can't think of anything else until you get back there!
Drove home by the stash to check and it's all still there...in fact I think one more tree is about to see its last day...state of Ohio doing the dirty deed....could not escape work early and rain moved in at 3 pm...hurrah! May attempt a load before work tomorrow with the early light...depends on rain...I'll say I had personal issues to tend to as I drag in smelling like 2 stroke and a shoe full of wood chips....it's a lumberyard...no one will notice!
Just tell your boss about the situation and you'll be a few hours late! Done, and you don't have to worry about lying.
