My wife is stuck in front of the TV. Me, I have head phones on while just surfing the web. Enough is Enough, but this election stuff is way too much. I have my Netflix programs lined up for the next couple days.

I dreamed it was Wednesday............. Sucked when I woke up and it was only Monday. :headbang:

TV's off the local stuffs. Watching Street Outlaws. And surfin. Keepin my mind off doing research on oil filters. A bud had his fram explode on him coming home. Cut it off quick and didn't hurt the motor. Didn't take the troopers 10 minutes to put an orange sticker on it. Anyway. We slapped a filter on it and put in a couple a quarts. But he's gonna need to hit a car wash or something to clean all that oil up....... What a mess! Stinky too.

Seems he was pushing oil changes to 10K with a chincy 3K fram Ph filter. Spun on an XG this time. Never had one kapoof on me.........

Edit: Almost forgot, Wife lemme have a Drakes ring ding. Mmmmm forgot how good they were. Seeing I lost some, She's letting me cheat on rare occasions. Down to 191 now...... Halfway to my goal. :D

Replaced the auger feeder motor on the Accentra, it was starting to make noises and having trouble at take off (slow as molasses at times). Got it at Earth Sense for $56.99 plus shipping. Cheapest I found online. Nice balmy day today, 17C:thumbs:

I thought the Fram filter exploding thing was just folklore, read about in the snobby oil forums. Gotta be honest, I would not have put a Fram on right after one just blew up. Even another model like the xg.

Unfortunately, like many other things, automotive products have been seriously cheapened. Competition to have price leading commodities have given us some real garbage. And of course the northeast where salt eats everything. You must buy a premium or pro series to get average performance. I had a fuel filter rust through the other day.

    Doggy

Welp the "season" of fire has arrived.

Beautiful during the day but getting colder at night (27 last night).

The new oil boilers are working as planned. They are keeping the house at a base 50 - 60 degrees depending on the heating zone. In this weather they alternate cycles, when it gets real cold they should operate in tandem. This will probably be the first year I don't have to wear a sweater when going into one of the lightly used areas of this old barn. They are also tempering the cold water that feeds the water heater.

The pellet burner is keeping the kitchen / family rooms at 75 or so.

Love it when a plan comes together.

Wifey has actually been willing to discuss selling the homestead although she still holds out hope one of the chitlins will take it over. Youngest daughter is expressing some interest. I would like to winterize the camp and head to either Georgia or Alabama for winters. Still being out voted 2 to 1 though. Wifey gets two votes in these matters.

Yep, seems everything is made cheaply today.

We bemoan quality. fact is most will not, or can not, pay for quality.

Fram XG from what the snobbies say is the best bang for the buck. I used to use Fram on all, But after seeing one cut open I went with oem(motorcraft). But I only use semi synthetic(again motorcraft) which is a blend and only rated for 7500 miles. If I were to go full synthetic I'd opt for one of the XG's or similar(Wix-Amsoil-Mobil 1). One with a synthetic media element. The XG's seem to keep right up to the 15 dollar filters and only cost around $8 to $10 bucks.

Went looking for something that had filter ratings on media(particle size extraction) and haven't found much. I may opt to go synthetic and a more expensive filter someday. But not until I get more facts. Until then I'll keep the blend and a mid grade filter and change every 6K miles.

As for cost, I pay around $35 bucks every 6K miles. where if I went synthetic I could go 10 or 12K. But its more like $65 per oil change. So not much cost savings.... But may try to see if I get better mileage. An extra mile per gallon may tip the scale??

I asked my mechanic why every time I need brakes I also have to replace the rotors. He laughed and explained I was dating myself and went on to say in the "old days" the rotors were American-made and were thicker and the metal quality was top shelf. Now, they are thinner and made of cheaper metal and if you don't change them, they'll inevitably warp with the heat generated by the new brake pads.

Same here, doing an oil change this morning on the '08 Taurus w/ a Motorcraft filter & Valvoline max life synth-blend oil. ( I can't justify full synth here, way beyond my comfort level to do a 15k OCI to recover the extra cost of full synth oil & extended life filter. )

The beast here has 358,000 miles on the motor, was a former livery fleet vehicle, and routinely ran 10,000 miles between changes w/ 5w-30 synth-blend oil and inexpensive Parts Master oil filter (made by Wix). Motor runs great, top end looks like new, rest of the car is starting to fall apart.

My Jeep got a steady diet of Super tech high mileage and Purolator filters.
The new car goes to the dealer until I put 100k miles on it to preserve the warranty. Hoping to relieve any headaches. God knows if I did it myself I would lose one receipt, have an issue, and they wouldn't honor the warranty any more.

I had to have the Explorer's rear brakes done a couple of months ago, which included the rotors. I was shocked at how cheap they were $$ wise. Now I know why.
