So turns out Julie actually has a reputation for being a tough negotiator haha. Also found out a guy I know well at work is friends with her and said he'd put in a good word with her. Wish us luck, offer goes in today. Here's a couple photos inside the barn
I see "Dave Cave" written all over the attic of that barn! May just have to give Julie a call....... Good luck!
Have a verbal agreement, sent over the signed offer a few minutes ago. Getting pretty excited. Comes with about a cord of c/s/s wood that looked seasoned about right for this winter. They're taking the washer and dryer though haha
Just don't wind up house poor. Nice to have a good place, but also nice to be able to afford to live there and do a few things. Anyway, I wish you good luck and hope this place will be home to you for years to come.
Haha. Could be but I doubt that's on the honey do list! What's a fair/avg price for chimney cleaning ? Sounds like we need to get that done since the previous owners don't know when it was cleaned last. Also, there are a couple loose bricks on the chimney (near the top) - guess I'll have to find a mason. I wonder if the guy I used to work for commercially would do a small residential job. Any recommendations in Northern CT?
Sweeps around here are $150 to $250, depending on height and crustiness. In addition to a full sweep, have him send a camera down to check it...inspectors don't always do an awesome job and this is one area to err on the side of caution imo.
I dont know how I missed this thread. Im a Realtor up in BC so Ive read your thread with interest. The house looks real nice. I dont know what it is like to back on to state land but up here we call it crown land and use it for hunting and firewood processing (within guide lines of course) All the best in your purchase!
Really like the posted barn. Those wood floors upstairs are +++, I would have a recreation space there. Workshop first floor. Very nice
So my dad (carpenter) was cleaning out his basement and decided he's ok with relocating the wood shop to my new barn which is great because I've been dying to get into some woodworking as a hobby and he'll only be 15 minutes away when he wants to use something. We'll likely be doing more projects at my house than his so I'm pumped. Band saw, radial arm, miter, table saw, lathe, drill press to get started. Would like to get one of those belt/disk sander combos someday. We can hunt on stateland but cannot take firewood unless permitted (and paid for). Trust me, I already found the deer trails before we made an offer.
Hey gang. Finally back on here, it's been a busy couple weeks and frustrating too. Our closing has been pushed back once due to the sellers not having their stuff out and then because our paperwork had conflicting zip codes with a neighboring town. Ugh. The plan is to close next Friday and move Saturday. I think I might start a new thread and journal my wood burning adventures as I get started and post updates there.
Here's a photo of the wood pile I'm inheriting. Looks like a mix of all sorts of stuff, all well seasoned.
Finally closed and moved in! Lots of unpacking to do but enjoying the house already, just check out this view
