New Splitter Engine Help

Hi all,

I just put a new motor on my Speeco Split Master 22 ton on Wednesday (don't ask). The gas tank had a little bit of what I assume was parts oil settled at the bottom. I drained it off and eventually got enough gas through to get the thing running. It was a little rough and burned some oil at first, but then alright.

Fast forward to today, I want to start it and run a tank or two through the new engine. Couldn't get the dang thing to run, I would prime it and it ran until the prime ran out-- like it's not getting enough gas. Also, I can see it is trying to burn some oil out the filter. I pop the fuel line off and a little bit more oil comes out followed by my gas. Put it back together and I finally pump enough gas through it by constantly depressing the primer until it runs on its own.

How can I make sure I get all this oil out of this tank, it's very annoying!

 

Try some dry gas in it. Just might help it go through with the gas and burn off. Only other thing I can think of is pull the tank and shake the hell out of it with a little gas in it and dump the gas out to start with a clean tank.

 

I have run the tank through, a half tank and another half is going through it right now. Will see how it starts tomorrow, will try your idea if it's still got oil in it.

Will that help to burn off the oil? I got a little bit out in the garage.

 

Oil in the tank?
Take the tank off, put straight gas in to rinse it out, slosh around, dump it out put it back together.

 

Ok, if its still there in the morning thats what I am doing. I might have burned it out today.

 

You probably burnt the oil off. That's fine. It wouldn't hurt anything.

Yeah, I knew it wouldnt hurt anything the problem was it getting in the way of the fuel.

 

I don't know how serious the problem is but, water, oil, contaminants in a tank, take the tank off rinse it out well .

 

So will the motor not run? maybe I missed that. oil in the tank won't hurt it a bit. you can burn mix gas in there no problem or just pour oil into it and the only thing it will do is foul the plug. Gas is a pretty good solvent it should disolve any oil. The seafoam will disolve and thicker gummy oil as it eats crud and dissolves it.

 

So, what's up Grizz did you get the thing running right or what?

 

Yeah, it ran right off the bat the next morning.

And clem--the problem was the oil settling at the bottom and making it so the gas couldnt flow.

I sorta had the same issue this past weekend. The Honda on the pressure washer must have been laid on the side for a bit. When I started it, it smoked, a lot. I let it run the oil out of the intake/ carb, then turned it off after fumigating the yard with smoke. Then I checked the intake, and the air filter. The filter and intake area was full of oil. I washed and dried out the filter overnight and cleaned the oil out it the filter housing. I also topped off the oil and it was good to go.
