If I hook a phone line to my Direct TV Box will it load up for me? I don't really understand what a Roku is. Fast Internet here costs $100+ a month. I have 500 something DSL and its $55 a month.
The Roku is a little box that you plug into an HDMI port on your TV and it will use your 'net connection to stream content to your TV. The Roku 1 is available for about $50, there is no subscription fee for the FHC channel.
It has channels and shows and youtube and Netflix and amazon prime and crackle and Hulu plus. You might have to watch a commercial or two to fully grasp it.
That is a really cool project, something I might look into. Wonder if we could get it up to USB voltage for keeping ,phones charged in an outage. Maybe daisy chain a few together.
Cool man! I think USB stuff is 5v, so I do think this set up might work as is. Low power though, but if those little biolite stoves provide a useable charge, this can too I imagine.
In keeping with the publisation of this forum and my own Firewood Hoarders TV project, I would like to share with you the Firewood Hoarders TV blog. In reality, the blog is just another repeater of the Roku and YouTube channels but I was hoping that it might be an easier way for some of our less tech-inclined members to access our videos. So far I have only linked my own videos, but I am hoping to have many of the other member's videos up by the end of the day. Link.
Projects currently in production in the Grizzly household: What You Should Be Doing: January (& February is in pre-production!) Making Your Own Fire Starters Out of Stuff Most People Throw Away Untitled Whirley-Pop Video Also coming up in the not too distant future will be a review of Super Cedars. Just waiting for my samples to arrive.
Ok Adam this one was a completely useless video for wood burning but I was told to do it. My buddy came over and was in awe of the simplicity and wanted to show a friend so here is the vid if you want it.
Shot some good footage today-- went over to Dad's and checked his flue and cleaned his chimney. Just finished splicing the footage together for my popcorn video, should have that narrated and out before the big football game. Hoping to get the January video done by Thursday at the latest and the February video done by the 17th so I can start getting them out in time for the beginning of the months they are for. I didn't come up with the idea for a monthly series until New Years Day, if I recall correctly, and the flu and bronchitis really put me behind schedule.
The Super Cedar review will be up tomorrow following a brief reshoot of one shot. Otherwise the video is ready to go, just need to splice in the new footage and publish.
