I've been thinking of getting an electric splitter for my parents and taking the gas splitter back home for my use.

For my mom to just simply plug it in, and split mostly pine, I know they'd be good with that, if not better off than they are. She's not very good with small engines. She doesn't get the starting part very well, as she can't listen or feel when the motor needs gas/ choke/air when the motor is cold.

Yes also they took out the lopi endeavor wood stove and installed a jotul gas stove upstairs, so they only have the wood boiler downstairs, and that's only as a backup to the gas boiler. So they use a lot less wood than they used to.

It's a lot less work to have the two 500 gallon LP tanks filled. They are both in their mid 70's.

 

I still have my 7 ton, I was going to sell it but I'm keeping it for backup

 

I bet they would like it, I miss the quiet, I used to sometimes split at night till 2 in the morning With the Electric.

If It's a little too warm out there in the daytime you already have power so you can do this

 

That would work out good because I am pretty sure that model has an on-off switch instead of a momentary push button, so it be would be one-hand operation, instead of 2 hand.
Edit: yep it is one-hand operation on off switch

 

You can put a block behind the pusher, ram deal, to keep it from returning all the way and it will save you some time.

 

I've had one for several years now, still works well, would like to change the momentary switch to an on/off though, used it again yesterday with no problems.....

Works great, particularly on stringy wood. Pretty slow, so I prefer to hand split when I can. I will be replacing the wheels with bigger inflatables for more transport stability, and need to set up some sort of table arrangement to make it more convenient for long sessions. I am amazed at the power of the little thing! I have been able to stop it on some particularly narly stuff, but it shears through most that I have tried. Great supplement to the stable.

When I called the number on the manual to get a replacement valve handle (accidentally discarded), they referred me to the number for Boss, so I guess they are made by the same place.

 

if that has a momentary on off switch, how does the push plate return?

 

Push plate returns when the lever is released , motor runs continuous so you have a free hand to position and hold the wood
