28 degrees here now and I have about 2 days worth of wood by the stove. Another 1/2 cord 3 steps outside the door...almost 400 hours of vacation time in the bank.....let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
Mid/ upper 20's here, waiting on the blizzard of 2014, or whatever they are calling for now. Getting ready to go light the stove, been busy running errands and chores tonight and didn't get a fire started.
6 to 10 predicted for tomorrow, then a nor'easter for the weekend. Will sit and wait for it all to end. Usually the adult kids will show up sometime and dig us out! Gassed up the van and the truck, brought in extra pellets, and filled the bird feeder.
Sounds like your ready save. I need to pick up some more pellets for the camp as well. Don't want that electric heat to turn on.
11° and the snow just started a few minutes ago. Coming down pretty good. Burning some large splits of White Ash. 7-8" across and 23-24" long.
We had temps of 14 degrees this morning, we're at the bottom of one of our racks, some big azz chunks of soft maple, beech and some sugar maple. Tonight we'll get close to - 10 so I'll go all beech, maybe set the pellet stove on auto, 78 degrees.
10"+ of snow so far with the ice, sleet and freezing rain to come. Temps at 27°. Hoping the freezing rain does not drop trees into power lines.
Once out of the driving wind, 4 or 5 inches of new snow. The wind is heavy from the North and really moving the trees, dislodging the heavy snow from the last snow storm. Those large mounds of icy snow are blowing into my picture windows. Not a nice sound. We are 14F here. With the wind, it's cold. And the wind is picking snow up and blowing it sideways, so some minimal white out. Just walked the dog about 1/2 a mile. (He ran, I walked). Second walk of the day, was less cold (less windy) and we went further this morning. He's been out a few times in between, stands and sniffs furiously, but is back in quickly. No interest in staying out today unless I am going with him. He has more sense than I do.
Jeesh! We got about 5 inches at my house. The time I don't think we are going to get that much, like usuall, and it turns into more. And the wind is blowing it around a little. I spent two full hours cleaning this one up. Shoveling, sweeping. But luckily the Bobcat did most of the work. I moved some banks back in anticipation of more snow over the next 4-6 weeks. And it doesn't look like it is going to warm up any time soon either. Glad I have lots of wood!
we got about 4 or 5" here by this morning but is was mixed snow and ice. Very heavy and wet to move. Sitting at 25º right now and expecting single digits tonight with another inch or so. Going to be not out of the teens and single digits for the next few days. The Buck is chewing on some cherry and elm right now.
I'll go out tomorrow and see what we got for snow. Only opened the door today to let the dog out and back in. Looks like the weekend storm may not be as bad as first predicted.
-4 right now we got some cloud cover to help with keeping the warmth up. 72 in the house, trying to burn a few coals down before Honey locust and hedge get loaded. It's suppose to reach a whole 10 degrees today. It's the low temps over a long period of time that I start losing the battle unless I play my cards just right.
It is -9° on the back porch right now. No wind, mostly clear skies. Boiler was empty this morning. Going to be playing catch up all day long while I'm gone. Oil boiler turned on about 6:15. Oh well, it needs some exercise.
Minus 24c=Minus 11f when i got up earlier and will be throwing in that barkless dead Elm i got the other day before i have to head to town..Stuff burns great and long
Hey, Loon, I beat you by one degree. It was a darn cold night. They were calling for a low of -16 C (about 3 or 4 F). Off by quite a bit, not for the first time this season, and always erring on the warm side. We were -25 C, -14 F. We were colder at 7 AM than at 6. Have to take the dog out and get some firewood in. Ugh. Remind me not to complain about the heat this summer (if there is any).
Not cold here, relatively speaking. Mid 20s, but that has created other issues via freezing rain. Power outages and downed trees. Boxwoods are getting hammered.
