I have a knock off brand 7" tablet too. It works ok, but randomly backs out of the browser. It's a slight annoyance. I paid $40 for it new , and I know I've gotten my $ worth out of it.

When you get one, make sure you get one with a large enough screen. Reading a small screen for any period of time is exhausting. Just go into any place like best buy and try a few out. I also won't give anything for a generic tablet. The one I use most of the time is the Samsung Galaxy. I also like my I pad, but the screen is broken and needs repair. We have a couple others, but none of those were less than $250-$300 range.
I think the Fire has a good reputation. If I were buying one, I would get an extended warranty. One with protection from accidental brakeage. At least that way, if it goes bad or brakes, and it will with kids handling it, then you have some dependable protection.

I got a Kindle Fire for lil one 2 years ago, worked great!! I just cant get enough data allowance to run it for her

Also when I bought it there was a "kids" package included along with parental settings that I appreciated.

Hay , the Samsung tab E is on sale at Best Buy right now $179 , I paid $229
I haven't had a lick of trouble with this thing, only minor thing I don't like about it is the menu and back buttons at the bottom do not light up on this model , it's fine once I get used to it
I bought the extended warranty it covers even if I drop it on the floor and break it

    Well, no waiting.:picard::rofl: :lol:
I ordered 2 for the gkids, one for my wife, and the Fire HD 8 for me.
These will be our first tabs, and hard to beat the price. If we don't like, not out a lot of money. If we do like, we'll keep and maybe upgrade somewhere down the line.
    Thanks for all the suggestions.
They'll be here tomorrow. I signed up for the 30 day Amazon prime deal a few days ago too. We'll see how it all plays out. Wife is a huge reader, so hopefully this will be nice for that.

I think tablets are an answer to a question nobody asked. A few years ago I bought a top of the line Android tablet, I used it for about 6 months before giving it to my daughter and she only used it for a few months as well. My wife has an iPad, and it only gets used to stream Pandora in the baby’s room when we need some white noise for her naps. As soon as I picked up a Chromebook we all pretty much stopped using tablets and now we fight for time with the Chromebook. The screen doesn’t have quite the resolution of the tablets, and the speakers suck, but it’s a lot more functional to us for daily use.

I have thought about getting a tablet and it would have been nice this past two weeks. I am assuming it would access the wi fi in the house and my household network so I could access the main drives of the big computers with it?

You would haveto install some custom software on your pc and your tablet to make this work. And even then it tends to be flaky.

Right now I have an old notebook, a laptop and three big computers all linked up to a network so I can access pictures, documents and the printer from any of them. The tablet would have a hard time fitting in?

Maybe a window tablet would have better luck, ive never used one, but android and apple tablets are t made to access network drives and printersour of the box so everything is a work around. Apple will access some apple brand pri ters out of box, I guess.

You can do all that with ES File Explorer
You have to install it on your devices and they have one for the PC also, of course your PC has to be on and not sleeping.
I actually don't have it on my PC but I have it on both tablets and my phone and I can access files on my NAS or the other devices on my wireless network

As much as I like my tablets, I'm with bassJAM , I think I'll look for a Chromebook during black Friday sales.

The keyboard being right there is a big thing for me.

You can get a Bluetooth keyboard for a tablet if you want , anyway that's why I like my tablet because most of the time I don't use the on screen keyboard, I use voice recognition
