Almost never do I check CL Tools listing, just Farm & Garden mainly. But I seen this last Saturday 10/15.Item was listed on 10/11.Located out in the sticks near small town of Stuart,IA about 45 miles to my west.Local peeps pronounce it Sturt Its very rare to see any saw larger than 60cc for sale around here, even newer Husky's,Stihls or Jred's etc. Hoped it was still available. Was working 10 hr days last week + busy with other stuff around home.Called the guy Tuesday afternoon, had nice long chat.He promised he'd hold it for me until Saturday morning.I said ''I'll be out there around 10AM to pick it up,if for some unforeseen reason I cant make it,I'll call you Friday afternoon/evening to let you know...." Price was $150,thought I'd get a bit off that even though it still was a fair price. Picked it up yesterday morning,he wouldn't budge any off the asking price, which I understood.Runs OK,needs carb cleaned or rebuilt to be at its best though, starter pawl springs are about shot & they don't engage very often so I'll replace them soon also.Has a very nice 31" .404 pitch hard nose bar, which is worth $75-100 as is,chain is about toast.Pretty sure its the original one. Very skilled self employed mechanic around 35,normally works on cars/trucks,occasionally tractors too, currently working on a early 70's Chevy Nova hot rod & is a Cub Cadet fanatic.Asked me all kinds of questions about certain vintage McCulloch & Homelite chainsaws, which I was glad to answer the best I could. Was in no hurry for me to leave after I paid him,we shot the chit for a good 35 minutes about all kinds of related subjects. We exchanged phone numbers & he'll keep an eye out for anything unusual I might be interested in the future. Said "I had no idea these old beasts were so popular now,I got 20 other calls besides yours for the Mac + that super nice Homie C-52 sitting on shop floor there... " One of the calls was from a person in Minnesota who was willing to drive 250+ miles just to look at both saws.... That C-52 is also listed for $150,if I didn't have an almost identical C-51 in similar condition,I'd have worked some kind of bundle deal for the pair. Vintage Homelite C-52 Chainsaw 20 But here's the kicker - I ALREADY had purchased an even nicer 550 about a week earlier, its on the way from Portland,OR & should arrive anyday now. Normally I wouldn't consider having duplicates but this model is pretty scarce & seldom seen. You might see 2 total for sale in 6-8 months time if you're lucky. But to have 2 fall into my lap in barely a week? That's unheard of!!!
Cool. If you say it's a good find then I'm sure it is. Have fun getting that big boy running right. A little vid in the cut when you're done would be fun to see.
One for parts, one to run Nicer of the 2 arrived today from Portland,OR. Included was a very nice original 24" hardnose bar & 2 almost new .404 Stihl chains
Since my FB account was being an azz on Thursday afternoon & didn't upload the video like it claimed, here it 'tis on You Tube....
