tablet, and wondering what everyone here has.
    Pros, cons.
Anyone have a Fire HD? Our two youngest grandkids want the Fire HD ($50), but that seems pretty cheap for what it does.

The big thing with tablets is to not go generic. Nothing wrong with the kindle fire, the old lady has one. I have an ipad and its good too.

We have a few fires here for the kiddos. once you have a hand held device, you will find it very convenient to take it around the home and browse.

I've never used the camera to load pics, so I can give any opinions on it. But yes, the prices have dropped over the years and they are very decent.

If the majority of what you use it for is email and web surfing...the Fire is hard to beat for the price. If you need to do lots of other stuff it may be worth the extra jingle for a Samsung or Apple product.

One of the reviewers mentioned how bad the browser is on the Fire. What's the opinion here?

According to info I read, can't be done on the FireHD.
Another thing, our laptops batteries just can't hang for more than about 3 hours or so, and they won't hold a charge after a couple years. That's one of the big reasons for thinking about a tablet.
    ETA: Just found a workaround.:)

I have only used one cheaper tablet and it seemed pretty slow
I have a Google Nexus 7 which is made by Asus 7" screen , good processor, screen resolution is great, bad thing is no SD card slot, I still use it some but upgraded to a larger screen, a Samsung tab E , 9.6" screen , much better for old eyes, again here I looked for good fast processor and great screen resolution.
I guess it depends on how much you want to spend but as always you get what you pay for, both of the ones I have were around 200.
Probably just me but I wouldn't give ten bucks for a Kindle Fire

Gkids are both getting the $50 FireHD from us. Our daughter said that's what they want.
I've been thinking about one for myself for a while, but don't want to spend the money on an Ipad.
Probably just e-reading, and surfing for the most part. I have laptops for more demanding tasks.

I've got two tablets and really cant get use to them... I bought one for us for Christmas (one of the bigger ones) and just couldn't get use to it. Surfing the web and typing on the forum. The kid now uses it. Then I got one of the smaller ones from Google Fiber for the TV package. It was better, but to me its awkard. I guess I'm use to my IPhone and a Laptop. I've thought about getting a IPad, but just don't want it to end up in the same place that the others two are...

That's the issue with Apple products.

My wife had an iPad for work. I had a nexus7 of my own. I preferred the nexus7. There's a nexus 9 out now if you need bigger.

I'd suggest not wasting the $ on an apple then. Try a new Google or Samsung tablet out.

Agree with Grizzly Adam...not a fan of generic tablets. We had one....as soon did my FIL. Both no longer work after a couple years of use.

I do like the format and size for home, but hard to justify it when we have smart phones.
