But this one cracked me up.

I went to a Super Bowl party in the city and during the halftime show a conversation of home heating bills came up. One of the people I knew at the party assumed that I must pay a small fortune to heat my house because of where it is located. When I told them that it was actually pretty inexpensive burning wood. Another person who I did not know told me that I was primitive for burning wood. I chuckled at the comment and had another beer.

Was I supposed to be offended by that?

That's funny and sad at the same time, we are considered primitive for being self sufficient, I guess you don't want to grow a garden either.
Now get back to cutting wood you knuckle dragging ape.:D

You did well to control yourself. One of the many reasons I seldom go outside my comfort zone.

It's been said that ignorance is bliss.
    That person sounded very blissful.

This state has a truly interesting mix of people.
Let me guess, that person drove a Subaru Hybrid.
It was probably a "put down", according to their way of thinking. They also think grocery stores are where hamburger is made, so that tells you something about their reality disconnect.

We supposedly have a nasty storm heading our way overnight.....not that cold at the moment (27), but if it stays cold just right, we could end up with 12-20" of snow here. I'm excited and hoping for some big snow!
Another one is supposed to hit us this weekend! Finally may be able to get the sleds out for a real ride....

    Well said.
Those types aren't worth the breath it takes to try to educate them.
Some of those types in every crowd.

    Same here
I try to avoid the tree hugger bunch that set the thermostat on 75° & wear oil byproducts .

Primitive… sounds good to me. Nice compliment…:fire::campfire::MM:… ahhhh, FIRE.

How does that old quote go… "For those who understand, no explanation is needed… for those who don't, no explanation will do"

I actually enjoy those stupid kinda statements. I haven't heard it about my wood burning yet but I likely would have said I have a new ultra efficient stove that makes a Prius look like a coal burning power plant.

I have heard it about my Dodge Cummins and my reply is always that I have an aftermarket computer installed that gets me 40 to 45 MPG in a truck that weighs 8000 lbs and almost zero emissions output. Cleaner than the vehicle they drive. No one has had a reply to that yet.

Of course it isn't true but I enjoy seeing the looks on their faces.

We have laying chickens and I have had people tell me that eggs come from the grocery store and that they couldn't possible eat farm eggs. o_O
